I have just discovered box sets on Sky

DS1 (18) and I like to watch similar things and were struggling to find stuff. I had never bothered connecting the box to the internet before.
We are now watching
Revenge - missed this first time round.
Desperate Housewives - I never saw the early ones
But best of all Grey's Anatomy. Love it, never seen it before and there are 8 series to go at, it's like Friends with operations Grin.

Ooh. I don't connect to the internet with my sky box either. How do I access the box sets?

Watching with interest...

You can connect via ethernet.
When you have an internet connection and click "On Demand" the available choice is much greater than it is without web access. The menu looks different. You can get iplayer and other catch up channels. I had no idea it was there.
There are loads of series on box sets. DS has worked out that if we watch an episode of Grey's every day we won't get through them all before he goes to uni......

Greys is great. I would watch 3 a day Blush Daft question. Do they have adverts on the box sets? Daft question no2. Is the ether cable the one that plugs into the phoneline or does it plug straight into the modem? Daft question no3. Who will cook my tea now I have decent tv to watch?

It's great! I have watched all 8 seasons of Greys since Christmas!

Oh I love Greys too! Season 9 became available on Lovefilm Instant so I was forced to watch all 8 preceding seasons again recently to prepare myself. Can't wait to catch up with season 10!

No adverts ghost. Ethernet plugs into the modem. I imagine newer sky boxes have wifi.
DC have an xbox which is next to the tv and also uses ethernet. We also have a weird gadget that sends internet through the electric sockets.

I don't even like blood or gore and yet I am hooked.
I have been trying to avert my eyes from the current series of Greys to avoid spoilers. I failed and saw a massive one which I am trying to erase from my mind.

Thanks youlittlesecret. I will shift things around and give the ethernet a go. There are some series I would like to try.
Greys is a definite favourite though. Even though you had a massive spoiler the storylines to get to series 10 are really enjoyable.

Do you have to pay for the OnDemand though, in addition to normal monthly bill?

Report
BloominNora · 07/02/2014 17:50

You don't pay extra for OnDemand Catch Up - you get catch up and on demand based on your subscription e.g if you have a basic subscription, you get catch up via OnDemand for the channels you have inlcuding iPlayer and 4OD, if you have movies you get Movies OnDemand.

Box sets are an extra 5 per month on top of a Sky Extra subscription.

I've watched the first two series of Girls in the past couple of weeks. I love being able to have a binge of something, and not wait for months and months for a series to move on.

Thanks BloominNora. Our Sky box is ancient, and I can't see where an ethernet cable would plug in on the back of the box Confused.

yourlittlesecret · 07/02/2014 19:01

MargotLovedTom are you sure? Ethernet is an old system and our sky box is pretty ancient.
We don't pay extra for on demand but we do have movies. Perhaps that brings the extras within the package?

It has to be a sky hd box. You can phone up and blah a new one if you need it.

Yes we have the antique old grey box. Might phone up and say we're leaving to see if they'll offer a new HD box, but then you've still got to pay an extra fiver a month. We already have Netflix so seems a bit excessive to pay out even more for extra telly.

Margot is your tv hd ready? We upgraded to an hd plus box but it didn't cost us anymore, apparently the package we were on qualified. We have everything bar movies and sport.

To be honest it was worth it for the extra hd channels. Call them up and have a haggle.

We have netflix too, we get the US one via the wii u and the UK one via the smart tv. Smile

Yes it's HD ready. We have the basic package (got the family bit taken off because I was sick of dc having ibloodyCarly and the rest on a loop.

We have Netflix through the Xbox. You can get it through a normal Wii now can't you? Planning to put the Wii upstairs now it's been usurped by Xbox.
