Seeing as the first thread is almost full, I thought I'd start a new one grin

For good measure, here is Monkseal's blog for this week.

Time scale was impossible to do anything other than butter cream and minimal decoration, the other two, especially Kimberly should have spotted that.

There were faults in her toadstool. It's impossible to get fondant neat quickly. (At least it is if you don't do it everyday).

Me I'd have made masses of American butter cream and done roughly three shades of pink, getting lighter, spray luster and marbled pink fondant butterflies like Frances's confetti and added flowers if time.

And no way would I enter because arty cakes are where my baking skills stop, I buy pastry from Sainsbury's thlwink

That banner ^ for PH's tour is freaking me out.

Late to the party but here is Monkseal's last blog, point 1 sums it all up for me:

and we're done

Radio Times had a big article on the contestants in finals week and the cover was a big glossy picture of the four of them, inc Beca, done up to the nines. I didn't recognise Frances or Beca. They looked fantastic but agree that it wouldn't be done to male finalists

GBBO on BBC2 now with Mary and Paul baking recipes from the series (and making it look all very easy).

difficultpickle Wed 30-Oct-13 19:35:18

The voiceover man sounds like Bill Nighy!

nocarsgo Wed 30-Oct-13 19:55:41

It's Rupert Penry-Jones.

UsedToBeNDP Wed 30-Oct-13 19:57:27

Isn't Paul Hollywood a weird colour? Almost purple on my telly

difficultpickle Wed 30-Oct-13 19:59:10

He's very brown! I'm surprised that RPJ would do something like GBBO.

UsedToBeNDP Wed 30-Oct-13 20:08:50

He needs to stay in the shade a bit, that's a suntan gorn mad!

Oooh, RPJ. Is there a [perv] emoticon?

Totally contrary interview w/ Ruby by Grace Dent in this weeks Grazia. Focuses upon the abuse ruby endured, the nature of it and the focus upon her looks and demeanor and how she handled it. Also discusses her feminism and Guardian leader. Now I know that one shouldn't expect too much of Grazia but Ms Dent does like to self style as a Feminist and criticise those of a lesser Feminist persuasion than her.

Then Dent goes on to describe Ruby's physical appearance and manages to shoe horn a guess at what clothing size she takes. In fact, a lot of the interview is about Ruby's looks and demeanor.

Way to go Dent! Yet another contradictory, lazy bottom feeding interview that basically frames a bright, ambitious and brave Woman within the context of her body.

I'll have to read that, mignonnette. Sounds interesting, if depressing.

mignonnette Thu 31-Oct-13 09:27:02

it is very hypocritical considering the prominence given to feminist thinking and the sniggering at non feminist criticism by Dent who then displays this astonishing hypocrisy.

It is a short read so you can probably read it in two minutes at the supermarket - no need to waste £2!

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock Thu 31-Oct-13 09:29:29

Good tip, I might do that grin

On a separate note, Mr PH seems to have realised that his career is going south and has announced he's going back to his wife.

Am I being cynical thinking the two facts are related?

I think I read she's writing a cookbook and moving on; I hope she makes the right decision for her, after all the public humiliation.

mignonnette Thu 31-Oct-13 19:50:47

Not cynical- more like astute.

I dislike him. He is the kind of 'Alpha male' who you instinctively feel is disparaging of women and sees them in a very one dimensional manner.

Anyone watching the Masterclasses? notice how Mary's sponge cake on Tuesday was certainly not perfect? Should I start a new thread?

difficultpickle Fri 01-Nov-13 11:24:57

I've been watching them but didn't notice Mary's less than perfect sponge! What was wrong with it?

ppeatfruit Fri 01-Nov-13 11:34:43

Well it was 4 tiers and every other tier was too small (they didn't match up IFYSWIM). grin The amount of butter in those brioches shock.

difficultpickle Fri 01-Nov-13 11:56:15

Was that the orange one? I thought it looked very homemade!

ppeatfruit Fri 01-Nov-13 13:02:56

Yes I think so, notice they don't mention how long it takes them to do their bakes! I suppose it would take longer than a whole weekend if they gave the contestants realistic times!

difficultpickle Sat 02-Nov-13 12:40:20

Article about Ruby in today's Telegraph Weekend section which I've failed to find online. She comes across as absolutely lovely (I found her really irritating on GBBO but completely different reading her words).

mignonnette Sat 02-Nov-13 12:49:33

I hope the Telegraph article doesn't focus upon her appearance as the Grace Dent one did last week in Grazia where Dent guesses at her dress size as well. This was after the first half of the article's derision at the focus upon Ruby's looks during GBBO. I don't expect any better from Grazia but Dent wears her credentials as a Feminist on her sleeve.

ppeatfruit Sat 02-Nov-13 13:55:05

mignonnette There a lot of stupid journos about whatever they call themselves ! IMO Ruby's attitude to her appearance was refreshingly low key. Sadly she wore her feelings on her face which annoyed a lot of viewers ;some calling her fake, which she isn',t I'm glad she didn't win because it would 've enraged them.

difficultpickle Sat 02-Nov-13 14:32:16

No it is the 'What's your perfect weekend' article so no focus on appearance at all and it is written in her own words (or is made to appear as such).
