Me too! It's real watch-as-many-as-you-can-in-a-row tv. I love the fact that each character has a story, and the black humour. It's very good on female relationships as well.

I avoided it for ages because I thought it looked shite - some lame comedy set in a female prison. But I was bored one weekend and gave it a go - couldn't believe how brilliant it was! Think I polished off the series in one weekend Blush

Ditto the highly recommend!

Yes I loved it! Although I did see something about it all still being a bit white middle class and not deep enough in regards social issues in USA...But I still enjoyed it very much Grin

Love it.

And I know it's rooted by the middle class white girl but a lot of the other characters take the mick out of her for being so unaware of her 'privileges' & how she expects them because she is this middle class white woman.

Very good, though I couldn't believe they ended the series where they did!

I loved it, another one who watched them back to back in a weekend. Netflix is my new found pleasure, I've stopped watching stuff on normal TV and just pick out series on Netflix to watch.

I think the next series of OITNB will be quite a bit darker. That was one hell of an ending.

I thought it was going to be dire, but loved it and couldn't stop watching it; can't wait for the next season.

Along with Kevin Spacey's "House of Cards" it's one hell of a production for Netflix!

Love it and so does DH although I struggle with the character of the guard with the moustache. He's just too sadistic to be the comical character the writers clearly want him to be. Haven't got to the end of the series yet (just finished the thanksgiving episode) so I guess I might change my opinion!

I have just discovered this! It's fantastic, just upto episode 8, how gross is that guard! I still don't remember anyone's names apart from Piper & Nicky & is the Italian/American called Morello? I like her! Not sure about the love story between the inmate & guard, Love Red! Can't believe it's captain Janeway! Lol

Yay! January doesn't seem too far away. Have heard one specific main character won't be in the new series though, which would be a huge loss.

I loved this programme soooo much. Watched it all too blooming quickly though

Have to agree, it was blooming great. One of the best things I've seen in ages.
I also avoided it as I felt it would be the usual lame American attempt at humour. So glad I gave it a look after reading recommendations on MN. I watched it back to back in a short space of time, can't wait till January.

Red is Janeway??!! Of course, I should have seen it. Thanks for that!

I hear Netflix are offering Vince Gilligan of Breaking Bad fame a shitload of money to make them some new show - sounds very exciting.

Captain Janeway!! Of course, I just could place her!
I think it's a brilliant series, clever funny and excellent female characters.
Netflix are making quality stuff, I even enjoyed their odd Norweign mafia comedy with subtitles.

I've just watched this whole series and i loved it. The last episode was a shocker.

I'm now watching Women Behind Bars with Trevor MacDonald and I keep expecting to see the characters!

As it was based on real life do you think they made the ending up to lead into a second made up season?

Report
UnknownGnome · 26/09/2013 22:42

I didn't realise it was based on a true story.

Seems they've definitely made certain that Piper will remain in custody longer than the initial 12 months!

Yes I've seen an interview with her and there's a book. I don't think she did a long sentence she's only young.
