Can anyone explain this to me? 'Owain Hughes - and before you ask, no I don't.'

I want to be on nessa and Bryan's team and get the joke!

I think they just made it up to demonstrate that the Welsh have funny little 'isms' that the English don't understand. I'm from Barry and have lived all over Wales and never heard this joke/saying. I'm sure there was a thread on this before and there were all sorts of explanations - one I remember was that 'hues' means 'smells' so Owain hues/smells but I don't think it is that. I'd love to ask Ruth/James because it has been bugging me since I heard it!

I'm with shiningcadence - I'm from Cardiff, Welsh-speaking with a norh-Walian mother and father with links to Cardiganshire and the SW valleys so have pretty much most of the country covered but I've never heard it as a joke/saying either. Don't think the hues/smell thing is correct either. The writers could just be having a laugh at our expense and it really does mean nothing.

A question about G&S . I've only watched sporadically, couldn't tell you which series etc

Watched it last night,it was the episide where all were in Essex and Gav's Mum gets pissed at their house where there's a party going on,baby Neil is there and Nessa and whasis name wake up in bed together. At the end,Gav wakes up and reads a text and looks stunned,as does Stacy,Ness and whasis name. What was the text???? Because the next episode didnt make any ref?? May have been out of sync though?

I haven't seen that episode for ages but if I remember correctly Smithy texts Gav to say he's woken up to Nessa, Gav shows Stacey the text, Stacey texts Nessa to say you've slept with Smithy! Nessa reads the text, turns to look at Smithy and is shocked. The pair of them were rat arsed the night before and can't remember getting into bed together.

I read something ages ago, that said James Corden and Ruth Jones didn't have an answer for that or what happened on the fishing trip.

They just put some things in to mess with the viewers. Its like when Nessa orders a really delicious sounding meal from the Indian restaurant and she's describing it. I thought god that sounds lovely but the dish doesn't really exist.

I've lived in wales all my life and speak the language fluently and have racked my brains but... nothing. I think its just something you're not supposed to understand.

It's supposed to make you Confused. It's not actually a joke. The audience is supposed to be as baffled as Gavin is.

Not a clue sorry and I'm Welsh.

As an aside, I've just watched the wedding episode.

If there's a finer bit of acting than Bryn reading the letter from her Dad to Stacey, I can't think of it. On both parts. Her look out of the car window at the end is heartbreaking.

wintera Jamdhani hashh didn't exist... but it does now! At least one takeaway in Cardiff has started doing it in response to demand.

I always took it as "Owe Wayne Hughes"!

MsHarry · 08/10/2017 17:29

That's what furball said bespawler
I thought it must mean he vomits as in he Hughie and Ralph being a metaphor for being sick.

The writers have said previously there is no joke, it's just designed to show how out of place Gavin feels

I don't buy the Owe Wayne Hughes thing. I don't think there is an actual punchline. (Welsh speaker here)

I love G&S. Bit disappointed to find the house used by Pamela and Mick was not actually in Essex, but near Cardiff..

I think it is way funnier that it is not an actual joke. If it turned out to be 'owe Wayne Hughes' I would be very disappointed, it's not in the least funny, but I really think it is just no joke.

I'd love to catch up with them all. I doubt that James C would be inclined to do it though. I also read that he no longer gets on with Mathew Horne, but that may be idle gossip.

The actor who plays Dave Coaches is a cricket commentator I think.
