starts tonight (friday) 9pm ITV

3 parter about two friends - Serena and Poppy who were teenagers in 1995

Serena was seeing their teacher Marcus who then gets murdered

Poppy serves 17years and is now released though said she didnt do it

Serena acquitted and hasnt told anyone including hubby her past

Be interesting if story follows the book - unlike Crickly hall which changed things sad

Ooh, thanks for the reminder. I enjoyed the book so will be interested to see if they stick to it.

From reading the TV write up about the first episode it doesn't look like they will be following the book closely.

In the first episode it says that Serena moves from Leeds to the south coast to look after her sick mother. Don't remember that in the book - it was Poppy who searched out Serena who was already living on south coast with hubby and two children.

I won't be watching - I hate it when they change things for no reason. Plus it's on ITV so will be full of bloody adverts.

MrsTomHardy Fri 19-Apr-13 21:09:40

I've never heard of it either but will def be watching.

cogitosum Fri 19-Apr-13 21:11:50

I've read the book and started watching.. Not too close to the book so far

MrsTomHardy Fri 19-Apr-13 21:16:10

Is it worth a read??
I might download it onto my kindle if so smile

MikeLitoris Fri 19-Apr-13 21:16:39

I'm watching. Only because I haven't read the book.

I'm finding the jumping back and forth annoying so far.

NuhichNuhaymuh Fri 19-Apr-13 21:18:22

just turn on, what have I missed?

cogitosum Fri 19-Apr-13 21:20:02

It's ok. A kind of mixture between chicklif and crime/suspense

TantrumsAndBalloons Fri 19-Apr-13 21:20:13

It's not anything like the book so far is it?

TattooEnvy Fri 19-Apr-13 21:26:17

Is anyone else finding it a bit slow?

My sister suggested that I watch it but I'm nearly falling asleep!

Currido Fri 19-Apr-13 21:30:40

I'm enjoying it because it is fillmed in my home town of Bray in Ireland! My brothers used to work on the waltzers and fairground.
Those beach huts are new though!

MrsTomHardy Fri 19-Apr-13 21:35:53

I'm finding it a bit slow....nearly nodding off...I might try the book

NuhichNuhaymuh Fri 19-Apr-13 21:43:10

was all of it filmed in Bray Currio?

Currido Fri 19-Apr-13 21:48:38

Dont think so. We dont have a local prison! All the beach scenes and the house is in Bray . They obviously took english reg cars over to put in shot as the irish ones are fuzzy.

NuhichNuhaymuh Fri 19-Apr-13 21:54:34

missed the first part so didnt see the prison bit!!!

So much stuff is filmed here, My office door keeps popping up in "london" smile

rainbowslollipops Sat 20-Apr-13 06:44:44

I really enjoyed it! Usually dramas can drag a bit for me but I'm hooked so far!

diddl Sat 20-Apr-13 15:25:53

It didn't really grip me, but I want to know who did it & why!

So if Poppy says that she didn't do it-does that mean that Serena did it & got off because her family could afford better lawyers/coach her?

Or did they both do it together?

He's an abuser but Poppy got 17yrs(?)-so it wasn't believed to be self defense?

It was someone he'd abused in the past or a partner??

Well, at least it's only a couple of weeks to find out!!

Don't really like the Serena character though, so that doesn't help!!

finally watched it-had dss over last night so didnt manage to watch my tv instead we watched dog racing

i have the book but wont read till all 3 parts, as i said crickly hall didnt stay the same story - bits chnaged sad

why do they do that hmm

sunshinenanny Sat 20-Apr-13 16:43:17

The book is great but this is not a good adaptation and Poppy was not a stroppy teenager who hated her nasty stepfather! In fact I thought one of the saddest aspects of the book was that because her mother was unwell when she was growing up Poppy had a really good relationship with her dad but he couldn't cope with what he thought his 'little' girl had done and shut himself off. Her mother does try to explain to Poppy (when she's released from prison) why he can't bring himself to talk to her and also explains that there was nothing they could do to for Poppy once she was convicted but they had to protect the twins from the media.

Yes Petal 2008 I also hate it when they change the plot of a much loved book just for the sake of it

Doilooklikeatourist Sat 20-Apr-13 16:44:17

Watched it last night .
Not much like the book , and the book is much better in my opinion .
Dorothy Koonsom is one of my favourite authors .
Another very good read is ' The Woman He Loved Before '

Groovee Sat 20-Apr-13 16:49:53

I read the book about 3 years ago, so for me it is better to not watch something after reading as it annoys me. Harry Potter infuriates me at times x
