mrsmushroom I know it took me a little while to get my head around Ricky Gervais playing Derek in a sensitive way. My default assumption was that he was making fun of Derek in some way, but this was my own bias based on what I am used to seeing RG do. I came round and thought it was brilliantly done.

Will be watching tonight. Might get a bottle of wine too.

It's beautiful message is an important one...that people like Derek are the winners.

Out of all the characters he is the only happy and fulfilled one. He loves Hannah and his friends, he cares for others...he has his hobbies and knows that being kind is all that matters in the long run.

It does not matter if a person has SN or is quirky or is the brain of Britain...all that matters is kindness.

Springtime...that got me too, Kev really showed something different in this episode.

I loved the pilot episode and the series...thank goodness we will get a series 2!

What a brilliant end and luckily I have a few FB who love it also.

YY mrs mushroom. I don't think anyone that has actually watched it could possibly find it offensive. It is beautifully written and all of the messages it sends out are positive IMHO. I haven't watched all of the last episode as I was out last night. I tried watching it this morning getting ready for work but had to turn it off as it was making my newly-applied make up run!

LaalRatty Thu 07-Mar-13 10:10:29

Watch it Science. Ok there are sad bits but mainly its very heartwarming. The character of Kev is astounding. I think Pilko is great too. I worked with Kerry Godliman years ago and she is such a lovely person. I was thrilled to see her on this.

I haven't dared watch it since the pilot, because I cried buckets and actually had to leave the room (the bit where the lady died and Derek went in and held her hand). I can't remember the last time something on tv got to me as much. I can't even talk about it without getting choked up.

I have sky plused this series but have been feeling a bit down and not up to watching it. I'm being silly, aren't I?

MrsMushroom Thu 07-Mar-13 09:22:35

I remember on here when it first came on, everyone had a go at Ricky Gervais for taking the piss out of those with SN...why the sea change?

I liked it from the off...but on here there were lots saying it was wrong.

It's message is lovely.

I cried. I love this but amazingly I am seemingly the only one on my FB to do so. I put how much I loved last nights episode and got nothing but how shit it is in reply. sad

Bluelightsandsirens Wed 06-Mar-13 23:02:28

Bluelightsandsirens Wed 06-Mar-13 22:38:27

I'm taping it and very hormonal, shall I wait and watch it tomorrow when I won't be 3 glasses of wine down?

Shinyshoes1 Wed 06-Mar-13 22:37:03
