Edna on emmerdale

oh god I'm already blubbing over this. Sad. I don't think I can watch anymore. I have to say edna's acting really shows up the wooden, one expression acting of others on the show.

What happened to her? I had almost a year's break of Emmerdale and I've been trying to catch up for the past couple months but haven't figured out her story yet. She's not working anymore?

Also, why is Paddy now a receptionist (or Marlon's little helper)?

I don't watch it anymore but agree she outacted the rest of the cast. Is another natural disaster about to hit the accident blackspot that is Emmerdale?

Paddys been struck off as a vet for the time being for punching a police officer. So his licence (I think) is suspended for a bit as punishment.

And I've not seen it much over the past week or two so can't comment on Edna. However, the run up to it was very realistic. We have a couple of elderly neighbours and there's no way on this earth they would ever ask for help or charity however much they needed it.

A very proud generation.

Charity took over shares in the haulage firm, for some reason she wanted Edna out, so basically set about bullying her out a job.
Tootsie, Edna's dog and only companion got sick (cancer) and Edna, who couldn't bare to lose her, got a credit card to pay for the very expensive treatment when her pet insurance company refused to cover treatment.
Now Edna has no job, no lodger (cause cameron killed him and then burgled Edna's house to make it look like Alex did it), and her roof needs fixing which will cost another 4 grand.
She is currently surviving on cuppa soups and cannot afford to have the heating on, so she just sits in darkness with coat, gloves and a blanket over her and tootsie.
And no one knows how bad it is.

I am finding this story line very hard to watch. Mainly because I know that many elderly people are really going through this.

The only good thing to come out of this is that this week we get to see Edna without a hat. :o Seriously though I hope Charity feels utterly ashamed of herself. No wonder Debbie is the way she is with two sociopathic parents who are related.

Debbie is getting right on my very last nerve.
She's nasty, mouthy and the courier company storyline Confused
Flinging the clipboard at Megans son (can't remember his name)

YY The Edna storyline is Sad

Debbie is awful.
She can't act, has only one facial expression (stroppy teenager).
Did she not realise that maybe someone who will have an affair and dump wife and kids maybe doesn't have the best moral compass?
She calls Charity a slag but sleeps with the courier bloke to get his keys, Andy (making him believe they were getting back together) to get pregnant.
I also was quite troubled at how she was acting when pregnant with Jack (if this baby isn't a match, I'll abort it and try again til i have a baby that is), but that's probably because I've been ttc for over a year.

Debbie - utterly vile. I think the actress is aiming to make the character look tough and hard but she just looks totally expressionless/blank/starey most of the time to me. I can understand how the horrible situation with Sarah has made her have to be ruthless and tough, but are we supposed to actually dislike her now do you think?
The Edna storyline is v painful to watch. I can't bear to see horrible things happen to older people. The story with Sandy was grim. I'm glad they tackle these sad subjects though to raise awareness.

I can't watch it anymore. I saw my grandma in Edna's position and my wages paid her heating, food and electric bills. All I had to do was stop partying every night. She died in hospital in 2000 aged 97 but its still far too painful to watch.

I want to see Edna without her hat! Shes acting this so well, so proud but I agree it is hard to watch as it is how many older people do actually live these days, and witnessing my own MILs treatment in hospital makes me realise that old people are still treated really badly in this country, you read about it but you dont necessarily believe it iyswim.

btw does anyone know how old Ednas meant to be?

Dont get me started on Debbie, the woman cant act now she is painful to watch, the storyline is getting really tedious now, Cameron was`nt the greatest catch. Is she going to turn into Emmerdale Villages Mafia boss because shes bitter?

thanks qazxc, so she has flowing locks under the hat, I`ve never understood the reason for the hat as she wears it everywhere even indoors, there must be a reason. Wow shes 75 (the shame if Ive done my math wrong Grin), she looks good.

Will be water off a duck's back to Charity, don't think she's capable of feeling ashamed of herself.
I agree about Debbie, dreadful actress playing an unlikable character.

Edna is acting the socks off most of them, but she always has been a good actress in lots of things. I think it's a good thing that her plight is being shown, even though it is heartbreaking to watch. Society needs to learn some sympathy & respect for our old people. Many made great sacrifices & endured things we've never had to in order to make this country the fairly comfortable place to live it is today.

The lady who plays edna was the original rose in keeping up apperances i think. This storyline is probably only one of a handful of story lines on emmerdale that are realistic imo

Just thought of another thing i haven't quite figured out yet. Where exactly is baby Leo? (or he's probably a toddler now..) If Paddy can't work at the moment, how come he's not looking after Leo, instead of doing crosswords and drinking beer in the pub all day? And none of them 3 parents seem to spend much time with him (they're always together in the pub). I even thought something terrible has happened but they don't seem to be grieving and Rhona did mention Leo today so I'm a bit confused..

Edna (Shirley Stelfox) was in a Carry On film as a Playboy bunny years ago. It's so funny to see, as she has a young body, but her face has hardly changed at all.
