Anyone got Tivo?

Have just agreed to an upgrade with Virgin and am getting an all new singing and dancing Tivo box next week.

Not exactly sure what it does though?!

Anyone got one and want to tell me what a fab decision i have just made?

I have and its amazing.

You get youtube on it, all the iplayers, you can type in Gerard Butler an actor you like and it will record everything they are in, it makes suggestions based on what you watch and like.

The only thing it doesn't do is make a cuppa.

Just never turn it off, it takes about a week to come back on again!

The only really sad thing about the search function is it records all the interviews as well, which I haven't done since I was a teenager in love with Take That

It automatically deletes things too if you don't 'keep' them, I found that out the hard way.

They keep suggesting I might like Jeremy Kyle based on my viewing

I was with Sky for about 6 years and can honestly say Tivo is much better. You are very clever indeed.

I'm not overly impressed with mine but I don't think I use all the functions, we mainly watch Cbeebies and I watch the odd thing on catch up.

We only have the normal box and can't record, i just wanted a Vplus box but they said they don't do them any more.

The Tivo is only £3.00 a month more so even if we don't use all the functions i will be worth it, at least it sounds like it will be.

Do any of you use the mobile app, dh thinks it might be good to watch the football on his Saturdays in work!

I have an app (that I never use) that lets me record things if I'm out the house. I don't know if there is one you can watch the TV on though.

There are some things that really annoy me that you had with the old box; these include:

Not being able to select 'View From' on a catchup programme (e.g. I always viewed Pointless from 6 minutes to avoid having to listen to all the introductions)

Not being able to scroll back up through an A-Z list - e.g. if you wanted to watch, for example 'Pygmalion', it would be quickest to select Q and then scroll up. With Tivo you HAVE to select the letter you want and then scroll down endlessly until you get there. And sometimes it takes forever because they will have every episode of a child's programme listed, or something.

Not having the programme time shown on the left of the list if you choose to search for a show using Catch Up by day. It's shown with all the programme info but your eye can't catch it as easily.

Not being able to fastforward on BBC iPlayer while seeing the action - if you press the FF button it takes you a minute on or back and you just jump straight to it.

I have known programmes to be available on iPlayer but not showing in my A-Z listing; I suspect this is because I have recorded it in the past or it's been recorded as a 'Favourite' - so it deselects it on your behalf. Not always helpful.

Picking up on favourites - I record Pointless religiously, but it has never twigged to record POintless Celebrities for me. I record Something Special religiously, but it didn't pick up on the new 'We're All Friends' series - I had to series link that myself.

Actually, I much prefer our V+ box to the Tivo. The only thing I really appreciate is that it will take you back about 5-10 seconds when you are fast forwarding through a programme, so overruns on an ad break don't result in you missing anything.

I think I am going to have to get reacquainted with my TiVo box (you can recordeding app? Automatically recording things with your favourite actors in?)

I never RTM Dino but i think i will this time.

It seems you can record from any pc or via iphone app.

Am stupidly excited now, not coming til next Thursday though!
