Anyone agree? Am confused why it's hidden away on bbcfour on a wednesday night though!

Clawdy Fri 16-Nov-12 16:00:07

Def agree, love it,but hardly anyone I know watches it. What's happening with Den? I assumed she had found out she was not really pregnant, and was covering up,but in the last episode she seemed really happy...

DystopianReality Fri 16-Nov-12 16:05:46

Have watched it from the beginning and we love it; was thinking of giving the first series to my sister who is non-medical. Who here watches it, enjoys it and is non-medical? We both are and wonder whether our enjoyment is based largely on 'being on the inside' and appreciating the nuances that may not be recognised so much by others.

What do you think?

gerbilsarefun Fri 16-Nov-12 17:04:13

I love it too & have never worked in a hospital. I think it's like The Office, hospital workers must cringe like I did at The Office, being an ex-office worker. Those things must really happen and there must be similar characters.

I love it too. I download it on iplayer and watch it on Thursdays or Fridays. There are so many story arcs in this series - I think series 1 was much shorter (or am I thinking of something else entirely...?)

who can resist the faecal stool study? The vulval atrophy survey? trying to match the random lady part photo to the owner?

deep joy

Tiredtrout Fri 16-Nov-12 17:29:19

I love it, the den storyline seems sad to me. The lady parts photo bit was so funny especially with the po faced unionist

LineRunner Sun 18-Nov-12 19:35:27

It's bloody brilliant.

TheGirlOnTheLanding Sun 18-Nov-12 20:15:09

Love it.

A friend I recommended it to complained it was 'depressing' but I think it has just the right mix of poignancy and humour. Bit like another favourite of mine from ages ago, Early Doors.

AmandinePoulain Sun 18-Nov-12 20:19:59

As I nurse I love it and it's the most realistic medical programme I've ever watched (unfortunately grin), but dh isn't a medical professional and he loves it too. The thing is I know people exactly like most of the characters! I've never been offered a fridge for my EBM though wink

LeeCoakley Sun 18-Nov-12 20:26:39

Love the doctor best, fantastic scripting and casting. Am non-medical but still find it so funny. I haven't seen this series because I CAN'T FIND WHEN IT'S ON!!!! BBC - that's aimed at you! It deserves more prominence.

GeorginaWorsley Sun 18-Nov-12 21:11:12

Am a nurse and love it!
Not sure whats going on with Den's 'pregnancy'

PiggeryJokery Sun 18-Nov-12 22:25:17

I love love love this, so sad the next episode is the last this series. I adore the background details like all the ward names being mountain ranges. I heard Popocatepetl get a mention the other day. Also the hospital canteen is called Chatters, just perfect detail. No medical background here.

pinkteddy Sun 18-Nov-12 22:44:32

Its hilarious. I recommend it to everyone I know - no one's ever heard of it. I especially love the consultant. I'm ex NHS so I get all the nuances but DH isn't and loves it too. There was a classic bit in a previous series where Jo Brand's character was on a disciplinary for calling Ricky Grover a fat ponce or something and the union rep asks ricky grover -are you gay? He says why is that relevant? Union rep - I need to decide whether its homophobic or inappropriate use of language! Classic.

I love Getting On. I have watched every series. I don't have a medical background. I love the threads eg, trying to get the code for the office door to open.

LineRunner Sun 18-Nov-12 23:23:49

Oh lord, 'Modern Matron' and 'the same step of the strategic stairway'.

Very moving too in parts.

I think Den's pregnancy is no more.

limitedperiodonly Mon 19-Nov-12 07:45:11

I was in hospital recently and was watching it when a nurse came over and said: 'You shouldn't be watching. That's our secret.'

A couple of friends work in NHS administration and said the pointless meetings, jargon, expensively re-employed deadweight like Ricky and his initiatives about disposal bags and switching off lights, the consultants more concerned with in-fighting and shoring up their positions than patient care, bogus qualifications like being a 'mentor' or attending short courses to rise up bandings like the stupid, self-important Damaris (in what world did she think she was cut out to be a nurse?) and lazy Den and the union rep are just like that.

Got to catch the last one.

AmandinePoulain Mon 19-Nov-12 14:51:49

limited I've actually been to that waste talk! We have 5 different coloured/patterned bags where I work, plus 3 different coloured sharps bins. And we can be fined for putting the wrong things in the wrong bins. I think that's why I love it so much, because I've already laughed at a lot of the jokes in real life grin

Wingedharpy Mon 19-Nov-12 15:25:20

Another fan here.
I too think Den's pregnancy is no more but she wants to keep the fridge!

BackforGood Mon 19-Nov-12 15:37:30

Not sure about "best" comedy, but I do like it.
Excellent casting and script. smile

Clawdy Fri 23-Nov-12 16:13:08

Just watched the last one. Interesting to see Tilda Swinton. Glad Den is still pregnant, that scan scene was moving.

ninjanurse Fri 23-Nov-12 16:21:35

How funny, I have just discovered this programme, and watched the first series on youtube. As a nurse I have to say its more real ife than documentaries!

lurkingaround Sat 24-Nov-12 20:25:36

It is one of the funniest shows I have ever seen on telly! Fantastic. And so real! A bit frightening, it's so close to the real. Script is wonderful. I didn't realise there's another's series.

Wednesday night BBC4? Why on earth are they not shouting about it?

crypes Sat 24-Nov-12 20:31:13

I love the doctor, such good acting, she has absolutely no bedside manner at all. How many doctors are like that? Hundreds!

GrendelsMum Sun 25-Nov-12 12:27:31

Excellent acting, good script, but I thought it was all so depressing that I stopped watching.
