It does look good. I have a feeling I've read the book.

babesdontlie Tue 25-Sep-12 20:11:14

yes I am!

MrsBovary Tue 25-Sep-12 20:28:21

Yes I'm going to watch too.

I didn't think it looked up to much on seeing the preview, was only after somebody told me it was based on Bonheur des Dames that I decided it might be worth watching (I can't recall if I've read this particular book, but I've read lots of the Rougon-Macquart series). Will be interesting I think.

Me, I thought the trailers looked good!

travellingwilbury Tue 25-Sep-12 20:38:44

Me too , first thing in a long time that I have actually wanted to watch .

Llareggub Tue 25-Sep-12 21:34:25

I am not impressed.

travellingwilbury Tue 25-Sep-12 22:06:54

I quite liked it , was a bit obvious but cosy and pleasing on the eye .

babesdontlie Tue 25-Sep-12 22:12:13

nope, not impressed

MrsBovary Tue 25-Sep-12 22:13:38

I'm not impressed either.

SecretNutellaFix Tue 25-Sep-12 22:14:03

bit bland.

picturesinthefirelight Tue 25-Sep-12 22:14:05

The trailer was better than the programme itself. I lost interest.

Llareggub Tue 25-Sep-12 23:15:18

It looked very ITV to me.

out2lunch Tue 25-Sep-12 23:16:59

i agree - very itv

I thought Sarah Lancashire was dire.

CeliaFate Wed 26-Sep-12 11:39:14

Sarah Lancashire was underused, although she seemed to have phoned in her performance so no loss.
The casting was wrong, I thought. None of the actors looked Victorian, the sets were too new looking.
I agree with the ITV feel. Not the type of programme I associate with the BBC. It was very disappointing.

I wont be watching it again. Its a shame because I sacraficed something on the other side for it.

Davros Wed 26-Sep-12 12:50:41

Turned off after 15 mins, couldn't take any more!

DuchessofMalfi Wed 26-Sep-12 13:08:04

Just me who liked it then? grin Makes a refreshing change from Downton Abbey which is starting to bore me now <hides, waiting to get flamed>.

KurriKurri Wed 26-Sep-12 15:22:18

I persevered until the end of the episode, but I found it very dull and rather stilted. Shame - I generally like these sort of classic adaptations.

Agreed, Downton can be boring and silly but I still watch and enjoy it. The Paradise just didn't "get" me at all.

UnChartered Wed 26-Sep-12 18:18:03

i thought it was just me..i went to bed at 9.20 and watched 'don't tell the bride' blush

not great then, huh?

ppeatfruit Fri 28-Sep-12 10:44:13

Is it based on a French book? I was thinking it was a bad written for T.V. "let's jump on the Downton bandwagon" stuff. It was dire; also agree about Sarah Lancashire who I normally like a lot

Sadly the Beeb is falling down a lot lately in the costume drama dept. anyone remember The Hour! Which made this look good!! ITV is showing the way with DA IMO.

To think I missed some of Neil Oliver for this shock.
