God I'm finding it hard to watch. I don't remember finding the book so heavy going, but I did read it five years ago.

doesn't appeal to me at all

I'm watching. I understood that the book was far more harrowing and graphic?

I am watching as I couldn't finish the book!

I was watching but have just turned it off. I read the book and found it ok. The film was harder so far.

Cavemum - I can only think that the reason the book didn't move me quite so much was because I read it during a stressful time before children! Perhaps it did move me, I do remember it being pretty harrowing but I couldn't even watch the abduction and murder, I had to turn over!

(Pleased to see I'm not the only one watching this btw!)

Book is better, though I am enjoying the film.

I never read the book. I like the thoery of the story line, ut the actual film is boring and it drags on. I want to try the book to see if it is any better :)

I don't think it's a heat adaptation tbh. Mr Harvey is sinister though.

Gwendoline - OK, pleased to see I wasn't a callous bitch at the time of reading the book! I was beginning to doubt my humanity!

I'm watching and also finding it difficult, I'm another one who read the book pre-dd and now find things like this much harder going :)

Heat should be great

No, I struggled to watch it on DVD, just thought it an awful adaptation and was dull. The book is so much better.

Actually Ilove - I've got a bit confused and muddled up. I did read the book during dds, I think I read it while I was bfing dd2... still they were a lot younger then....

I seem to remember the book being a lot more factual and less fantastical.

I want to say I'm enjoying it but that seems wrong to say somehow Confused

Haven't read the book but I think I will.

Is the book a bit less fantasy-ish then?

mumatron · 24/07/2011 22:12

Ah, fantastical is a much better word! Blush

I don;t think they book was anything like this...
It's all going a bit crap actually. Why do the parents and grandmother look so ridiculously young?

I haven't read the book, I just vaguely remember Peter Jackson saying he didn't want to include the rape and murder scene in the film as a) he didn't think (rightly IMO) that anyone would want to see it and b) because he was concerned that it would be too much for the young actress to deal with.

Yes enjoying is perhaps the wrong word! Appreciating a different perspective, I think.

I was very glad I had a mouse to catch at the worst point, never did I think one of the cat's living gifts could be so pleasant.
