I saw this for the first time last night. I like it a lot but don't understand what happens next. Are people voted out like the X factor?

yes. but not for another 1-2 weeks. They will pick top 20 (or it was top 14 last year), they may have a week to showcase their talents without voting, and then the voting will start. Usually one guy and one girls to go each week.

I am TOTAL fan of this program. I've watched several US, Australian and Canadian seasons. The best of all the dance programs, IMO. And standard looks to be quite a bit higher then last year already for UK S2.

Ooo, just seen this thread. Yes they will select the top 10 boys and top 10 girls after the bootcamp.

IIRC, last year they were paired up randomly (partners change every week) and had to learn a couple's dance as well as a boys group/girls group dance. Everyone also gets to dance a solo piece once during the competition. In reality it means that some of them could be learning 3 routines in the same week Shock

The whole point is for them to show that they can learn a new style and routine quickly. It is all well and good being an amazing contemporary dancer, but if they can't handle the hip hop or latin styles then they will leave.

Interesting, DD watched it last night and really enjoyed it.
I hope the woman with the 80s hair and MC hammer pants sorts that out.

I loved this show last year and was so looking forward to it coming back! Just love all the great dancing, one of my favourite bits is when you get the top male and female dancers and they all get paired up - for me my favourite style is def contemporary when they almost tell a "story" to themusic through the dance, thats when real emotion and talent come out. There was a lovely couple in the final of Sky 1s Got To Dance who I thought were great like this, they were just friends but the dancing was so powerful. cant help but get caught up in the romance of it all, Im an old softy lol.

I have to admit I was not that into contemporary, but watching this show last year, and watching Matthew Koon on Got to Dance has helped to change my mind!

I'm a latin/ballroom dancer at heart but I can appreciate most styles of dance! I did get a little fed up with the sheer number of street dancers in Got to Dance, but I guess that is what people are dancing at the moment.

Oooh - top 20 look good. Several have been given TV time already, but there were a few that I don't remember any backstory on.
Can't wait for showcase next week, when they will all dance their own genre.

Nice to see Travis & Nick from SYTYCD US. Travis featured in choreo a lot last season in US. I wonder if he will be back during the competition?

My favourite programme at the moment. Now that True Blood has finished.
They told them that they were/were not int he Top 20. The girl who was deaf, they put through, when I thought she wasn't a good enough dancer, but we will see.
And the final two boys they couldn't decide on. Was it Israel, the black guy who kept surprising them ? He had good choreography skills when he danced with the 3 girls and pulled one up in a very beautiful way. But the guy who was at dance school? Who Cisco and John B had given extra lessons on manliness. I was surprised they did not put him through. But hey, they probably thought he wasn't quite ready.
One guy who didn't get through last year, or this, said he would be back next year. I thought, please don't, just let this go.
Can't wait for next week.

The contempary dances last year, were so incredibly beautiful. Do you remember the one where one of the girls looked like they were dying/ill ?
And another one where they were arguing and I think very tall blonde haired boy kind of hit here, like abusive.
I know what I mean !! they were my favourites.
Can't wait to see similar this year.

I love 'Got to Dance' too. Agree with dream, the contemporary couple in that were fab.
Big ole softie me.
I do love latin etc. But often I feel that the dancers who do it, like last series , on this, are not polished enough, its not technically good enough, so looks messy.

Anybody watch last week-end? Just caught up on it today.
My favs from showcase are Luke and Danielle.
I also liked Kristy as a dancer more than I did during the auditions. I read she got new special hearing to help her during the show. She is an inspiration for sure.
I'm looking forward to competition starting on Saturday.

Agreed. Kirsty is growing on me, I didn't think she was good enough before.
No surprise about Paige and Ryan.
Wonder who will be next ?
The boys don't seem as good as they did last year. The girls seem better.

I'm gone off Luke. He was one of my favs from showcase. The partnership with Danielle is not working. I still like Danielle, but I'd love to see her with another partner.

For the past two weeks, I think Matt, Katie & Katrina were outstanding.
And I'm really lilking Kristy and Rithy. And Charlie is just so lovable!

katrina is amazing

Report
MCos · 02/05/2011 22:38

Agree. Katrina has been amazing last two weeks, and hasn't had anything close to her genre yet. She is a real contender for the title.

Really enjoying it so far. Sisco cracks me up, even though I think sometimes he overenthuses about 'just-ok' routines.

I was surprised the charlie chaplin duo got in the bottom two - I really enjoyed that routine!

I haven't worked out my faves yet...

Was surprised by bottom 4. What was the public thinking of not voting for Ritchy and Shane. Very odd. Thought that the decision to lose Gian Luca and Stephanie, based on them not connecting with public for 2 weeks running, was about the fairest thing to do, seeing as none of them should have been there.

Behtnay and Israel will be out soon. Tom too. Lee c and Luke out sooner rather than later.
Strongest = Matt, Katrina, Katie Love,
Lee B did well this week.
Kirsty, Charlotte and Ritchy a bit behind them.
Alice, Charlie and Danielle are o.k.

bet I've got it all wrong !!

MCos · 09/05/2011 12:21

What did you think of this week?
This week, I loved Matt and Charlotte, and liked Karina & Tom, Danielle & Luke and Bethany Rose & Israel.
I think Charlie & Alice were the correct couple to go.

I am not really getting Commercial Style at all. Didn't enjoy it last week with Danielle & Luke, and not either this week with Ritchie & Shane. And I normally really like Sean Cheeseman routines.

I don't 'get' Commercial either, any hoofers out there enlighten me?

Also loving Katie Love and Katrina. I've always thought it's a bit unfair that any ballet or tap specialists don't get routines in their own genre. (Or 'jaaaanre' according to Nigel Grin)

JamieAgain · 10/05/2011 18:23

I agree about Commercial - bad music and lots of rolling around on the floor. Some of the choreography has been quite bad and it has left the dancers vulnerable through no fault of their own (IMO)

Am also a bit tired of Danielle's porny outfits.

On a more positive note, Katrina and Katie are great. I also like Matt (love tap) and Charlotte.

So we all agree on the commercail then Wink. lets hope someone comes along soon who can exaplin it !!
I too think thta some of the routiens and cheorography has been poor, and really let the dancers down.
Sometimes there seems to be so little 'dance content' and that really gets on my nerves.
and thats not the dancers fault.
