Was he not fabulous?

I have a massive unexplained weird crush on him.

extremelychocolateymilkroll Wed 22-Dec-10 12:05:04

Only saw the last few minutes but I totally agree. Surely the crush is because he is intelligent, funny, doesn't take himself seriously and is quite cute?

BellaBearisWideAwake Wed 22-Dec-10 12:06:17

was it a repeat? He was hilarious when he was on a while ago and doing his 'Mothers of Britain' appeal to camera

I'd only heard his (rather twee) music. Then he guested when Amstell was hosting and he was a revelation.
I taped the show last night and when I put it on this morning I saw his face and squeeed like a teenager.

I even like his music now. blush

Oh missed that. I don't know a lot about except for the Polar Express song, which I do like at christmas.
Is he coming from the same place as Michael Bolton?

EllieG Wed 22-Dec-10 12:08:23

Ooo yes he was great, I was howling, and ditto now have rather a crush meself

anonacfr Wed 22-Dec-10 12:09:51

Noooooo! No comparison to Bolton. He's classically trained and has a beautiful voice.
Youtube him singing 'Holy Night' at the Rockefeller Centre (Xmas appropriate).

He started mainstreaming when he appeared as a bar singer in Ally McBeal years ago. I never saw it at the time but apparently he was such a hit that he was re-invited on the show and launched his pop career from that.

Bella it wasn't a repeat he was hosting this time. You can see it on BBC Iplayer.

I will now step away from this thread and stop fangirling... blush

PfftTheMagicDragon Wed 22-Dec-10 12:24:39

Oh he was wonderful when he was a guesy last time - shall watch tonight.

BellaBearisWideAwake Wed 22-Dec-10 12:37:29

i will have to watch it, he was soo funny last time

WhatsWrongWithYou Wed 22-Dec-10 13:01:14

He was just fab - even my 15yo was chuckling along.
I'm afraid I don't know his music apart from 'Wind beneath My Wings,' but might be looking into it now blush.

Michael Ball gave a stirling effort at the end but I think he was outclassed.

lostinwales Wed 22-Dec-10 13:03:16

Never heard of him before but I thought he was fab, I have a mahooosive crush on him now and am off to you tube him until my computer explodes!

asmallbunchofmistletoe Wed 22-Dec-10 13:06:24

I bought his CD on the strength of his appearance on Buzzcocks. Well, as a Mother of Britain I had to, whatever he said. blush

Abcinthia Wed 22-Dec-10 13:21:05

I've never heard of him before but I thought he was fabulous.

ImeldaSnowboots Wed 22-Dec-10 13:24:51

Was same when saw him as guest, he was so refreshingly funny, original & inoffensive. Will try & see this new one

undercovasanta Wed 22-Dec-10 13:28:35

I've fancied him ever since Ally McBeal tbh!
And a gorgeous voice!

saffrone Thu 23-Dec-10 00:10:45

WWWY, he did NOT cover Wind Beneath Your Wings!! However, you may be thinking of You Raise Me Up, heavily sent up by himself on NMTB when he was a guest - I think Phil literally raised Simon Amstell onto his shoulders and tottered around the studio.
Was better as a guest, Imho, but still v funny.

Has a good (and v different) new album out now, Illuminations, produced by Rick Rubin, he of metallica fame, (hence v different).

WhatsWrongWithYou Thu 23-Dec-10 10:21:38

Yes, I was thinking Raise Me Up and Wind Beneath My Wings were the same song. blush and < phew >

sockmonkey Thu 23-Dec-10 10:55:24

I've watched NMTB twice now. blush
He is great.
I did Glee for purely artistic reasons... I made a statue out of cash. grin

SlowComfortableShrew Thu 23-Dec-10 11:47:08
