Mad Men - amazing stuff

It doesn't make you laugh, but it is getting more subtle and complex by the minute.
I loved the way Peggy looked at Pete through the glass as she went off with her hip friends regret, hope closure, and the way Peggy refused to admit she had ever been in Alison's shoes (although she had), and the way Don bumps into the elderly married couple bickering about pears.
I love the way it is Alison who is the first to make Don face up to his problems with women. He thinks of himself as kind and caring and respectful. I love the Ponds - all women want to get married --- stuff.
Each episode is like a mini-play.

It was so great wasn't it? That episode was directed by John Slattery - he did a great job.

I loved all the complaints about the cramped office space, and the fact that in one of the scenes in the lobby you can just see Bertram Cooper chowing on something in the background (presumably he had no-where else to eat). Love those little details.

I'm not feeling too sad for Peggy. I know she gave her baby away, but she rejected Pete, in the end, and now she's starting to live the life she wanted to - just like she told him she wanted to.

I loved the stuff about the pears - kind of random and surprising when the episode ends and you're left thinking what was that about, but it stays with you - one of those stand out moments, together with Peggy looking at Pete through the glass

Last night's episode, Peggy riding in circles on the Honda - sublime

Peggy is my favorite at the moment. I think she is so cool and I don't feel sorry for her at all. But BT vision let me down Sad and I didn't get to see all of the episode when Peggy met the Time Life girl and went to the party. Loved the line about renting her vagina Grin I saw Alison piss off Peggy that was cool too. I think Peggy was right Alison and Peggy are not the same boat. She didn't shaggy Don to get anywhere and I don't think she was in Love with Pete (just a mistake) I think Alison had romantic designs on Don. I must say he's not as interesting now as the rest of the cast. I love Lane Pryce please let him get more and more British as time goes on.
BUT did Peggy go out with the arty writer bloke from the party?????? I NEED TO KNOW????????

ooh Nutty didn't realise you had posted here. Madmen tonight! No she definitely loved Pete. But he didn't give her respect so she moved on. Unlike Alison who fell at first hurdle of gettng thoroughly upset and sad about everything.

Oh yes I'm a big fan I now have to look over the that eposide again. So being a mate and all that.... Did she see the arty writer again? Did she shag him?
I won't be watching it tonight as I like watching it on my own when DH is down the pub! I don't want anyone to cmment while I'm watching it Smile

Oh a big fan here too. (And DH, for once he likes the same TV as me).

Only thing is, I missed the second half of the first series, so I have no idea about Peggy and Pete (after the initial shag) or Don and Betty's divorce.... Help! Is there anywhere I can see those episodes?

I bought the box set sorry!

Oh that was a bit abrupt. It's worth the money get DH to buy it for Christmas it will be worth it honest. Now I must go and do some housework. Swan see you on the fly thread

oh, thought I had posted.
here goes, again.
Last night was dark. Men are slaves to their appetites, women are powerful and rational. Even when depicted as possible sex objects they reveal the men to be ultimately more pathetic (fur coat sequence, and naked cough drops sequence)
Don is possibly getting on better with Betty, as he called her Bets even when they were having an argument. Is there hope for them?
Men are drunkards. But only because they have no other way to have relax.

Actually wasn't Peggy doing the opposite of what Joan did? She used her body to challenge someone without having to submit to them (though actually I think Joan's relationship with Sterling goes deeper than that). I think Joan represents the old way that women could advance themselves, and Peggy the new.

I also loved the scenes with Pete and the guy from the old agency. Pete keeps having everything snatched away from him, and even though he's done some horrible things, I really feel for him. In fact, I love everyone at Sterling Cooper Draper Price.

@Matsikula - I like that theory.

Although last night's was very dark, it was also very very funny.

I've watched it now. Loved it when Peggy took her clothes off. Angry at my DH thinking it was okay to lose a weekend, find yourself in bed with a different woman than you thought you went to bed with on the Friday!!!! Wished my DH stayed in the pub longer so I didn't have his sexist comments spoil it! I know he's trying to wind-me up! Confused

dh said, "another episode of shagging and drunkeness - what's not to like?" never quite thought of it like that tbh...too busy searching for Ibsenesque themes and Relate isshoos.

I love it too. There's so much depth to the characters and the storylines, and the whole look and feel of the show is sublime.

www.lippsisters.com/ is a fantastic blog which analyses the above to death. Careful though because it's on US time and there's only one episode to go in series 4 there. I have to admit to downloading it from the States cause I just can't wait to see it! Smile

That was a strange episode.

Like a play. All those telephones. All taking place in 24 hours.

What did you think?
And no romance this time.

I thought Don was at his most lovable. You could see why the dead lady had loved him.

Clearly Don is at his most lovable with people he's not having sex with.
