DD's school stopped this a few years ago and the results did improve, but when she took her exams last year she got sooo stressed at school as everyone was chatting & not revising so we cleared it with school for her to revise at home.

Mine starts his study leave next Wednesday, and I expect he will work hard. Our school starts at half-term.

We stopped study leave because many kids just piss around. The first year there was a protest, led by the kids most likely to piss around on study leave! What a surprise!

dd's school don't do study leave - they have to go to the lessons until they've done the exam in the subject.

Don't talk to me about study leave. They all come to MY house and eat all MY food. Then they kick their football all over my flowerbeds, then tell me to chill out when I raise my voice...............

Does it make you have sympathy for their ex teacher who has had them for the last 2 years?

Absolutely

They are nice lads really - it is just that they are carefree and I am grumpy.

My DS has started 'study' leave. Such a cope out by his school. Me and DH both work full time and DS admits that he finds it very hard to stay motivated.

Sun is shining and girls are on his mind!!!

I think our school (grammar) has got it right. In the daily notice today it said

"Study periods are to be taken in the learning centre, common room or the cafe. Sunbathing and ball games are not appropriate and any students found indulging in these activities will be redeployed".

He's class, our head. Walks round in a black gown and everything.

Ours are in school for another two weeks yet.
After half term they have individual timetables depending on what subjects they are taking, and what exams have already happened; there are special revision sessions.

IMO most 15/16 yr-olds work better with very structured sessions and revision workshops, rather than being given vast swathes of time and told to "revise". Some can do it, but most can't.

Dd1's school offer study leave to pupils who have proven over the years to be 'responsible young women' (all girls school). The rest have to go in.
Dd1 is going to go in for certain workshops and use their library when necessary. I trust her, she is working hard. (So she tells me)

We don't have study leave at our school, although we do begin to phase out the real troublemakers at about this time. We got rid of the first 4 today and will probably "lose" about 4 more before the rest of them finish at half term. After half term they will have exams and timetabled revision sessions but no more "lessons". Some of them vote with their feet at that point and we don't chase them; just teach the ones who still want to be there learning.

ds's will not be doing "lessons" they will get an indvidual time table. so they revise the subject then have the exam iynwim.
so glad as if he was doing it home. I know he wouldn't do it.

At dd's school they get individual timetables and those who the school think will get C or above are allowed more time at home as they feel the others will need more help. Next week she has her Drama practical on Monday, in all day Tuesday, for RE lesson Wednesday and then RE exam in the afternoon. After that she has to go in for some revision lessons and her exams.

Her leavers day is 24th June - although she will be staying at the school for the 6th form.

Yes. DD3 starts Study leave next Wednesday.I'm fine with this as I know she will work hard. There are some revision clases for some of the subjects she is taking, which I know she wil go to,
DD1 21 always said she revised a lot bette at home then in school. As she could go at her own pace at home and was much more likely to talk to friends at school.

Ds is better at home, where he focuses on what he is doing, rather than getting sidetracked by his dafter mates, who think revision means chat.

The fact that I am at home for a chunk of the time to nag continually probably helps.

School will be flexible - I suppose that if you're not going to work at this point, what can they do?

Wel I went to DD3's leavers celebration yesterday. It was only for about an hour. I felt very strange as she is my baby and this will be the last time I'll ever be going to the school. She is going to college in September.
She has been in for a couple of hours this morning for a Drama revision class and is now upstairs revising for her Music exam which is on Friday.
I don't have to nag her to revise.
