Anyone waiting for a provisional driving licence?

We sent our forms back in April and the tracking is still saying 'awaiting documents' - DS is 17 in July so I am really hoping it will be here in time!

My dd got hers back fairly quickly
We did get a form back asking for a passport picture that we had to send back even though we'd given her passport number

Ours was sent in April and we are still waiting. Same message as you.
It’s a nightmare as ds is joining the raf as a driver and can’t without his provisional.
Fingers crossed they both appear soon.
I tried to ring this week but they are all on strike apparently.

It's so frustrating! I thought I was being super organised (for once!)

I sent back the photo and the form with it at the end of April/. demented do you mind me asking when you applied?

Not sure when we applied but it was during lockdown - might have been end of last year.

Can I ask a question ? I understood that provisional licenses are taking ages so applied for my sons, 17 in October. The system (gov.uk) said only a moped license available. At what age can I supply for a car proviso bay, like previous posters trying to get ahead if the game ?

Ds sent his in April and finally heard from them on Friday- his photo wasn't good enough so we have to do it again arrgggh!

Are you sure that's what it said? I applied for dds not long before she turned 17. The website says you need to be 15y 9m to apply

chrissy You can definitely apply at 16... Its 15 and 9 months www.gov.uk/apply-first-provisional-driving-licence

dancetherain - that is so frustrating!

I first applied in December but I didn't get the photo done and sent off in time so had to re-apply. Hopefully it won't be too long.

I used the paspic website for dds picture. Take picture on the phone, upload to paspic and then they send passport compliant pictures in the post within a couple of days

Waiting for one here too. Sent the form with photo and signature back as soon as we got it over 4 weeks ago. Didn’t use passport photo as DD was younger and didn’t want to use that photo.

That's odd. DS sent fir his in Feb and got it back in about 2 weeks.

We had similar delays last year. The provisional turned up the day after his bday.

Can you helpful people clarify the photograph process for me?
DD will definitely need a photo different from her passport as that is way old.
So does it work the same way as passports? Get photo taken and they use it from a portal? Or does it need to be printed and signed?
(DD could do with photo id as she doesn't look her age.)

So we apply online, pay? and then sort the photo?

I had to provide an actual passport sized picture for dd. We applied online and then they sent a form out for us to complete and send back with the photo.

In this theme i would book driving theory tests ASAP as their are massive delays of several months for getting slots. Also I would also contact driving instructors before you require them as most of them also have a few months backlog too.

There’s massive delay on theory and practical tests plus driving instructors have huge backlogs I would be looking now for an instructor and booking theory test the moment the licence arrives Once theory is booked crack on and book a test Its been fairly challenging all in all I wish someone had told me not to hang about

Ds applied late April. He has to do the medical forms.

We had a form to stick a picture too after a few weeks (passport one wasn't clear enough online) and then a few weeks later the medical forms.

Lord knows how long before he gets the actual provisional.

He's 17 late august.

It’s taken nearly a year. First one was lost, second one they needed and extra photo to validate using the passport. Spent 5 months “waiting for paperwork” that they’d signed for so was in the system. Unable to speak to anyone via phone or email. Finally got the form returned with the photo unusable. The form has a ring mark from a cup on it, water damage and the photo has water damage and haas been ripped in two. We need a new photo and to return it and go through the whole rigmarole again. I’m not best pleased.

Gosh I think my daughter was lucky. She sent hers off last Tuesday and we got it back on Saturday! Used her passport photo, so not sure if this sped things up massively?

Tried again today and it states moped only. Wonder if it's because he's 16 and 8 months - need to wait until he's nearer 17?

Chrissy Came on to ask the exact same question as I have today just reached the same stopping point. Smile

I have a feeling with DD1 we had to wait until 16y 9months, but agree the website is very unclear.

I let DH take DD2 for her passport photo - she looks like a thug in it, so I am supervising a new photo for the drivers license.

Chrissy yes that's correct.

You can apply from 15yr 9 maths but will only get a moped licence unless you get enhanced mobility pip which means you can learn to drive at 16.

That's how we applied for ds car license early.
