DS2 (14) has gone to a party, got legless on tequila and been ambulanced to A&E

I'm just waiting for DS1 to get in from DJing in a local pub and then we'll go and fetch him.

Do we kill him there or wait till we get him home? (DS1 told him to be careful with booze. I want to know where the tequila came from )

Oh dear. I'd let hm recover first- wait till he's back to full strength then bollock him.
You must be worried silly.

I bet he'll be T Total from now on.

Oh, God, poor love.

Wait till he's better before you bollock him though. Will sink in better. Just be Very Quiet near him for now [remembering being 14 All Too Well]

no bollocking, make him feel Utterly Guilty by telling him how frightened you were and soothing him. go the Tony Blair approach... 'look, euan's a good kid, you know'. LOL at how much that TB ref will have annoyed you.
just have a good chat with him about it. my mum's advice was never to be a trailblazer when it came to substance abuse, always to drink twice as slowly as mates and she would take care of them when they got too pissed to take home and i'd be the only sensible one there. it worked, i think.

I'm practising the Blair hands, Aitch!

good one, mate.

my mum did have to look after quite a few of my pissed-up pals, though... this was the downside to her anti-trailblazing strategy.

Oh crikey. I'm pleased he's OK.
Did ds1 do this at that age?
I hope the experience is one he remembers and learns from.

Hope 'the morning after' is going ok so far! Poor ds2, hang overs are horrible, especially if you have no idea what to expect (as I suppose this is his first one )

I suppose you have loads of questions (I know I would in your shoes) like who gave him the tequilla, what were his other friends drinking, were there any adults around (presumably the party host had parents nearby)?.

I know you'll need to wait till ds2 is feeling a bit better - then there will be lots of talking to do, I guess.

Wouldn't want to be in his head this morning and here's betting it puts him off of tequila for life.....
Agree with the others make you point, but don't overdo it and yes I would definately want to know where the alcohol came from...

Aitch is right. In my considerable experience of both being an irresponsible teenager and now living with one, the 'lecturing them into a puddle of shame' method is much more effective than a regular bollocking. I hope he is ok and that you are ok too, you poor thing, you must have nearly died when the ambulance rang

cook him up a full breakfast and be really loud this morning

oh poor little tyke ... I think the empathy, sadness, don't worry dear all young men make silly mistakes approach .. perhaps putting in a little bit of sex education involving demonstrating condoms on bananas might make it all sink home

hope you weren't too worried

oh dear ww. I did exactly the same thing when i was 13 in donegal (where they have somehow forgotten that 13 year olds shouldn't be in bars)
drank whiskey with tequila chasers wtf!

Still can't have tequila anywhere near me

Snigger - sorry I really shouldn't but I suspect that most of us did it at about that age. My dad sang 'oh what a beautiful morning, oh whats a beautiful day, I've got a wonderful feeling that 3sEnough will have a hangover all day' - for ALL of the next day, at 100 decibels, whenever he saw me. My husband was dragged out of the fishpond at 3am in his 16th year - his dad still hasn't forgiven him (although I laugh copiously whenever reminded) Hope the hangover is VERY bad!!!x

Oh botheration, WW. How is ds2 now? Ime, the problem with drunken teens is that they have no short term memory and by the next weekend they have completely forgotten how crap they felt when out of their skulls. They just remember the 'cool party!' bit.

Ds1 was our worst, it took him a loooong time to learn, although he never ended up in hospital. It doesn't seem to have had the same attraction for ds2 and dd1, thankfully.

And dd2 won't ever be going out on her own - she'll be too busy looking after us Mouldies when she's a teenager!!

What did you know about the party before he went? Were adults there (or supposed to be there)? And where did the tequila come from?

Of all alcohol to get bladdered on, I suspect tequila is not the best - but you probably need less of it for the same effect.

Give him a bucket and tell him he has to clear it up if he misses.....

ggglimpopo · 29/09/2007 12:09

Oh bum WW. Silly boy.

Are you going to punish him? It certainly gets harder as they get older.

He'll never look a bottle of tequilla in the eye again

I did this without the ambulance on Bacardi when I was 14. I have not touched Bacardi since. The thought of it still makes me want to retch and I am 31 now.
Hope you are all ok. I kind of agree on the no bollocking thing. He will have learned his lesson. I think if you don't go mad then hopefully he will trust you and be able to talk to you about stuff blah blah blah. My two are only 2 and 4 though so I am not sure I could stay so cool in the same situation. Hope all OK today.
