Drunk teen!

My DD is 18 next month. Yesterday she met up with a friend in the park- first time since lockdown. She came home drunk at 8pm after 3 hours out and got sick on her bedroom carpet!
They went to a supermarket and bought 8 cans of cider, which they drank in the park! I can't believe it!
How should I handle it? I'm in shock! She's normally fairly reserved!

She's near enough 18, what are you expecting to do? Send her to her room? Tell her to clean up her mess.

I don’t think you have to handle it. She’s almost 18! It was bound to happen sooner or later. How much sympathy you give is up to you. There’s a whole spectrum ranging from nursing her hangover to making her clean up her vomit. It’s all fine.
It’s just one of those things that happens with teenagers (and occasionally adults too)

Eh? Do nothing but watch her hangover.

OP now is the time to do that DIY or vacuuming outside her bedroom.

Handle what? Like you said she's 18 next month so not much you can do..

I'd say this is totally normal. It won't be the last time she's sick probably - it's not nice but it's how most young people learn their limits.

She’s almost an adult, I think your overreacting. Tell her to clean up her sick obviously - but if it’s in her own room she probably doesn’t need telling.

If she has got to nearly 18 and not been drunk yet you are doing ok!!! I suspect that this will make her think twice about drinking so much so quickly again! Give her a bit of a break, it is not ok but it is not unusual.

Get her to clear it up.
Be pleased that she might think twice before having too much any time soon.

In shock because of lockdown?

Sounds pretty normal almost-18 behaviour!

God bless my old mum for always putting a big pudding bowl next to my bed as a teenager, and leaving it til morning to bollock me.

mynameiscalypso · 15/05/2020 16:37

Just be glad it was cider and not something like red wine that really stains!

Biscuitbiscuits · 15/05/2020 16:42

Anyone remember those rancid watermelon Bacardi breezers that came back up the same colour?

Report
mynameiscalypso · 15/05/2020 16:43

I feel like we had very similar teenage years @Biscuitbiscuits. I still can't stand watermelon 😂

Report
Biscuitbiscuits · 15/05/2020 16:56

@mynameiscalypso I don't know why I reminisce fondly, they were vile.

I was mildly tempted when I saw some bottles of hooch in the corner shop recently, but all teenage drinks like that bring back vivid terrible flashbacks.

You're all right! I just told her to learn from it and left it at that...I'd forgotten what I was like at 17! Grin

It does bring back painful memories OP.
Poor thing, hopefully she will have learned something about her limits.

There is something delightfully retro about getting drunk on cider with your mates down in the park.

Kids these days don't know they are born

Getting wrecked on 20/20 was the best fun ever. And castaway

Half pints of cider and blackcurrant! Comes back up the same colour as it goes down!
I can't even drink blackcurrant juice now never mind cider 🙈

Anyone remember making bongs out of big coke bottles and a carrier bag?

1998 weekend job xmas party. Watermelon bacardi breezer, bright red vomit. Thanks for the memory!!
Did actually buy some hooch not long ago as had a 90's reunion night. It was surprisingly nice!
Castaway was always vile. As was Metz - would burn your throat on the way down. Mad dog 20/20 was something else....

Mad dog 20/20 🤢
These kids don’t know how good they have it with craft beers and nice gin.
I’d let her clean up her own sick OP, but don’t think there’s a lot you can do. Is she due to go onto uni if it’s open later this year?
