My DD was 16 a month ago, but hasn't received an NI card/number yet.
The Gov website says that they should get sent it shortly before their 16th birthday. But this hasn't happened.
Anyone else?

This has happened to one of my teenagers. We rang them and it was sorted very quickly. I guess there may be additionally delays at the moment...

Mine was 16 last autumn but I had to call them up to re-send it. They had sent it to our old address where we moved out from several years ago and I told every government department I thought we needed. Tbh, I would have hoped that the various departments computer systems were "talking" to each other but obviously not. Before they could re-send it they needed to speak to my DC who had to confirm her name, date if birth and new and old address so make sure your DC is next to you when you make the call.

NI works from the child benefit register. If people previously received child benefit and no longer do since the changes and have moved house they wouldn't think to inform child benefit of change of address if no longer in receipt. Could that be your situation? It's the most common reason for not receiving an NI card at 16 at the moment.

Would it not make more sense for the young person to make the call? It's their NI number, after all, and chasing it up if it doesn't arrive is surely their responsibility and part of growing up.

Absolutely, I simply added that as my DC was in school when this happened to us, that was the reason that I rather then DC called them as their opening hours where the same hours as she was in school. As she wasn't with me when I made the call, we had to wait a month for her inset day when she made the call.

They are supposed to be issued when they reach 15 years 9 months. My son has an August Birthday and we had to chase his up last Juneas it hadn't arrived, he needed it for applying online for apprenticeships.

You can get your NI number by creating a government gateway ID then using your (valid) passport number to recover your NI number. Only if it's actually been issued though so might work if it's just not got to you for some reason.

I had this with one of my children, obviously they might be busy with other things at the moment but it was sorted out with a quick phone call.

There's no such thing as a card by the way, all you get is a letter.
