What does your teen son do for recreation that's not gadget related?

Bought dd a load of brush pens for her favourite hobby - bullet journaling, while ds (14) looked on sulkily. I asked him what he wanted (happy to buy them something to keep them occupied - can't really buy "toys" anymore) but he sat there in a sulk because I refused to get him a gaming card. He spends enough time on the laptop doing homework and there's often phone time or TV time factored in, so ideally would like something he can do that's not screen related.

What does your son do /play with at this age? We're doing other stuff together like walks, exercise /boxing at home, table tennis in the garden, art sessions early evening, cooking....

My DS loves playing board games and anything in the garden really. We play tennis and badminton and he practices football skills by himself.

Since the lockdown started he's quite enjoying cooking and regularly makes lunch for all of us.

Can't get him to read!

He goes out running or plays football in the garden. Sometimes he will cook dinner - simple meals like calzone or one pot stews etc.

He's spent some time working out with his dad.
Playing with the dog, teaching him some tricks and walking him.

But like yours he does spend a lot of time talking/videoing his friends and on the PS4 -

Normally my 14yo ds does judo, hockey, scouts, helps at beavers.

At the moment he is playing a lot of Minecraft and other online games while chatting with friends. It's Easter holidays and he can't do much, so fine.

He is also baking and cooking which he enjoys, walking the dog daily.

Next week it will be back to more of a routine and schoolwork.

I do feel like we just all (also 17yo) live in the same house together rather than feeling like a family, although that's not a COVID related feeling, more something that's happened over the last year or so, since DH died a few years ago.

Lego, but the big kits, so not a cheap pursuit, but he did just have a birthday.

Also likes to lie in his hammock (birthday present) which is at least outside !

we have taken to giving him jobs (mowing the lawn, cleaning windows, washing the car etc.). He doesn't really have any house based activities that don't involve screens. We've tried most of the activities on this list.

He does do some fitness routines (different types of press ups and sit ups on his bedroom floor).

DS plays guitar and piano and does basketball. Also Rubik’s cube. Will play board and card games with the rest of us too
