Can you block social media on an iPhone ?

DC removed Instagram after a few issues but then downloaded it again. We removed it and altered the settings to stop it being re installed but they are cleverer than we are and managed to remove the block and log back in. Yet again they’ve been encountering bullying.
Can we remove and find a way to stop them downloading it again? Plan be is to get a dumb phone but ideally they’d keep the iPhone 5 and just have social media removed. Unfortunately they will not listen to us and just stay away from it.

i'm not sure about blocking social media explicitly but you can set up ask to buy instructions here which means you would be able to see when they download social media as they have to ask permission

How old is the DC?

We do have a setting where they have to ask. Unfortunately it appears once it’s previously been downloaded you don’t have to ask again.

I put restrictions on my DC's iPhone so he can't even access the App Store, so can't download any apps at all unless I go into it and do it myself. He's got an iPhone 5c.

I have had to delete certain apps on my daughters phone. She's started to use mine to see what her "friends" have said about her so I've had to delete most of them on my phone too.

Take that phone away and give them a non smart phone.

How did you you do that OhMs?
He’s currently being stalked by a stranger threatening to kill him if he doesn’t to pay money. But I know if we can’t physically stop him looking he won’t stay away.

My ds has “restrictions” with a passcode that stops the App Store showing at all. He can’t buy install or delete apps

Go to settings, then general, then restrictions and you should be able to set it up with a passcode.

Can they just not go into settings and tick the passcode not required? Problem is he’s more tech savvy than us!

Settings
Screen time
Content and privacy
Allowed apps - switch on what you want him to have.
Content restrictions - put age appropriate limits on and block the websites of social media and anything else you want blocked. Check it works you sometimes need to block the mobile sites as well as the desktop website address

Enable downtime for sensible hours
Always allowed - Only put in what you want him to have all day/night,

You can also put limits on total time per day on apps.

You use a different passcode to set up restrictions. Once set up, you need the restrictions passcode to be able to get into the section to make any changes.

Don’t allow change passcode and the restrictions passcode should be something only you know.

Please report this person to the police too. That is not bullying, that is far worse.

Do you think police would be interested ?

Please go to the police OP.

That's not bullying, they're threatening and blackmailing a child.

You need to make sure you're all protected, just in case.
Some right fucking nutters in this world.

Thank you I will call them tomorrow. I didn’t think they’d be interested as we have no idea where it’s coming from ( random email)

Just to update school suggested reporting to a website called CEOP . They are affiliated to the police but are there to safeguard children. Just in case any of you ever encounter issues.
