DS has dropped all hobbies

Since changing school for sixth form my DS (17) has dropped all his hobbies. He used to get together with mates for football, fiddle with his quad copter, be interested in Geocaching. He is doing very well at school so that’s fine in itself but he literally has no interests outside gazing at his phone all day long. He will join in if something is suggested to him (mountain biking/gym/hiking etc) but will never do anything off his own bat. We tried to get him in to various sports over the years but nothing has stuck. He is sociable but his meet ups — we now discover — involve staying up all night, drinking heavily.

I really feel that he isn’t very happy and that if he did something he enjoyed outside schoolwork it would make him happier.

Do your teens have hobbies? My 15 yo DD does and is very happy and well balanced — mostly...
