Just found out that DD is self harming

It came to light because she's panicking about a cut that is deeper than usual. I've cleaned her arm, hugged her tight and talked about her waking me if she feels the urge to cut again. It seems to have been happening for a while but in cycles. Any advice on how to help her would be very much appreciated.

She needs some counselling. Take her to see your GP as soon as possible.

Has she told you why she's doing it?

She says that 'it's not her' and sometimes she just feels like she gets into 'a bubble' when it happens and then she is immediately regretful. She had been waiting for counselling and has reached the top of the list but is off to uni in a few weeks, so will no longer be here for the appointments. They are going to find somewhere in her uni town for her. Apparently, there is a corrleation between her cutting and her periods, so it could be a hormonal trigger I suppose. I'll get on to the GP tomorrow.
