My 13 year old daughter had a cigarette (she got it from a stranger who gave all her friends one as well and they were fine) she started to feel really hot and couldn’t walk. Then her jaw hands legs started to shake and wouldn’t stop she sat in a McDonald’s bathroom on the floor for about half an hour when she threw up and it was black liquid (probably from her Coca Cola) and couldn’t. Walk properly. When she went to the cinema the workers noticed her jaw and hands kept shaking and she went to the bathroom to throw up again. She was incredibly tired and kept getting headaches. They gave her water but she decided to tell them she was fine so an ambulance would t be called. I wasn’t there but her friends called me incredibly worried about her because they didn’t know what to do . She has no medical conditions

Might sound daft but are you sure it was a normal cigarette? I would also be wanting to find out what stranger gave ur teenager that how stupid! It could be a nicotine rush if she's never had one before

Are you sure it was a stranger and she isn't just saying that to cover for someone? It could be a nicotine rush if shes never smoked before, how is she now?

She seems fine now and I’m pretty sure it was a strangers becuase I know from other mums that they just ask random people when they are out for a cigarette but I’m concerned that she could have been drugged! I think she’s doing better but she’s has headaches

I know that she has smoked before but I can’t stop her as I don’t have any proof and it’s a hard thing to stop. I’m really just worried about her

If you are really worried about her you should ring 111 and ask for their advice.
I can't really imagine someone drugging cigarettes and carrying them around on the off chance that a stranger might ask for one, so hopefully it's just been an unpleseant reaction to the nicotine, and this might make her think twice before smoking again! I hope she's ok.

Probably a counterfeit cigarette from under the counter. Usually called Richman and in a red and white box. They are absolutely foul and smell like there's plastic in them.

Report
Wildthyme · 25/08/2019 20:17

Argh. Meant to add, educate her on counterfeits and refuse them altogether. It'd be even better if she refused all fags though.

It's probably overdoing it on the nicotine rather than anything more sinister. Keep an eye on her and give her plenty of water - if she's generally getting better it's almost certainly wearing off now.

You clearly do know she's smoking now and parenting doesn't require proof beyond a reasonable doubt anyway, so once she's back on an even keel you might want to take some action about the smoking. Asking strangers for cigarettes at their age is pretty damn reckless and asking for someone dodgy to lock onto them as exploitable.

Skittlenommer · 25/08/2019 20:20

Hopefully now she’ll think twice before doing it again!!

Probably a reaction to the nicotine

As she's only 13 , I'd be grounding her for the foreseeable future

Report
MmmBlowholes · 25/08/2019 20:26

Yeah it's probably nicotine rush.

Can you move her to a different school? Might seem like an overreaction but it sounds like she needs a different set of friends. Cigarettes at only 13 is where it starts, where will it end?

My problem is I was liek her at when I was her age and it’s hard to stop I’ll limit her money and make sure she always has 4g so I can make sure I know where she is but moving schools and all that didn’t help me and I don’t know if it will help her I think the best thing for me to do is keep a really close eye on her and get her to trust me because I know she will probably be drinking if she’s like this and I know it’s hard to stop it but if she can trust me then she’ll come to me if she’s in trouble and needs help

She has her phone off her and she has been grounded but I’m getting her to sleep and we’ll have a talk in the morning.

Was she not scared?

Hopefully that will will put her off

Given that reaction she won't be trying one again in a hurry.

Report
RedCowboyBoots · 25/08/2019 21:58

it’s hard to stop

Then surely you should be trying to help her stop? She's a thirteen year old child and you plan to let her face addiction on her own? What about when someone notices that she's asking for cigarettes and gives her ecstacy or heroin to try? Do you plan to continue to sit there and watch while telling yourself there's nothing you can do?

Yes, it's hard. Everything worth doing is. Get some help.

I’ve heard of this situation and it could have had drugs like ketamine or ecstasy or Mandy in it not because someone would be waiting to obviously drug someone but just for themselves because it can be easier to take it and I fear that this person has done that and forgot that they had put drugs in it and given it to her

She's 13 and getting cigarettes off strangers and you're worried about her drinking?
Why are you even letting her out of the house if she can't be trusted not to talk to strangers?
There probably was something else in that "cigarette". What stranger is going to be handing out fags to groups of young girls without wanting to get something in return? I'd be questioning her story, speaking to the manager at MacDonalds, ask for their cctv, and depending on what transpires, consider reporting to the police.
I don't think it sounds like "nicotine poisoning" ( from 1 cigarette??), at best she's been taking drugs knowingly or unknowingly, at worst some chancer is trying to groom her.

DelphiniumBlue · 25/08/2019 22:09

And no-one gives away drugs in cigarettes by accident.

Report
RedCowboyBoots · 25/08/2019 22:11

Agree with Delphinium, nicotine poisoning seems very unlikely from one cigarette, particularly as she's had them before.

I’ve got an appointment with the local gp and we’ll take her to some classes to help I know what it’s like to be in her situation and I understand how hard it is that’s why she’s grounded for two months and can only have her friends round and can’t go out to see them after she’s ungrounded I’ll be usin find my iPhone to see where she is but any parent with a child liek this knows it’s hard to control what there children do when they leave the house but saying I’m doing nothing is an overstatement I’m letting her sleep right now so I can make sure she is completely fine and being a single mother it’s hard to deal with stuff on my own but I’m going to be there for her and make sure she makes the right decisions

Update- one of them threw up , once feels really sick and the other one has a really bad headache so it may have been the type of cigarette as all of them got affected by it

OP I hate to say it but I once smoked a legal high and this is pretty much exactly what happened to me

I remember 'baccy buzz' from when I started smoking when I was younger and this seems more than that.

Jaw shaking is a classic sign of someone having taken drugs.

I don't know if you can do anything about it now other than keep an eye on her but hopefully it will put her off smoking.
