Pocket money for teens

My sisters dd is approaching an age where she’s wanting lots of new clothes and things to keep up with her peers.

Wondering what pocket money you give? When did you suggest part time work? Though she is only 13

How much money do you give nowadays?

My 2 get £25 per month into their bank accounts

We agreed £7 a week into bank. I still pay for other things like clothes they actually need and toiletries for them though and give them extras here and there.

My 2 year11 sons get £50 a month, DD into their accounts. My year7 boy gets nothing yet but as soon as he's 13 he'll get his bank account and get £30 a month like his brothers did at that age.

DD has had £20 a month from 13.She is 16 this year and I am trying to work out an allowance for her to buy most things for herself and help her learn to budget.This will exclude her phone and contact lens.

Other than baby sitting there’s not a lot she can do at that age.
My 13 year old gets £8/week but she rarely spends it as she’s not a shopper. But my 15 year old son can’t walk from A to B without emptying his pockets - he gets £45/month and just got a part time job. He’s still always scrounging for money as he loves clothes, going out (with girlfriend and his mates) and getting his hair cut every other week! Plus trainer at the gym (he is going into fitness as a career and they’ve offered him a work placement so that at least has paid off).

I'll speak from my personal experience growing up..
My parents never gave me pocket money. I did a paper round from age 13 and made my own money. It made me appreciate money because I had made it myself. I would save and buy things that I really wanted and I loved knowing I had earned it and I took good care of what I brought with that money! I did a paper round and helped out in a shop until I was old enough to get a proper job and I am so glad my parents didn't give me pocket money.. I had so many friends who just got given money from their parents and they would spend it on alcohol, drugs or just things they didn't appreciate because they didn't care for the value of that money or how hard their parents worked for it..

Lucky you, nel123 - my boys have been on the waiting list for a paper round for over six months now; employment opportunities aren't great for 14-year-olds in these parts. They get fifteen quid a month each pocket money. One spends it all on his girlfriend; the other keeps offering it back to me when I cover the occasional visit to the trampoline park or similar... They are so keen to start earning; it really isn't as simple as 'offered to you on a plate' or 'did it all off your own back'.

Not many jobs about for under 16s. I didn't get pocket money but that's because I had 4 other siblings and money was tight. I still give pocket money anyway
