Help! I can’t bear it anymore

DS will be 19 later this year. He’s at college but not putting in the effort. He leaves everything to the last minute then gets stressed. Only the threat from his tutors of not being allowed to carry on usually spurs him into action.

He is constantly behind, misses deadlines etc but says he knows what he’s doing.

I’ve given up nagging about the washing and rubbish on his bedroom floor, he can get on with it.

And all of this is because of the love of his life - the Xbox. we do try and limit it a bit but doesn’t feel right as he’s 18, he should be able to manage it himself. When he’s playing he shouts and bangs his desk which can be heard through the house and even outside when the window is open.

I seriously cannot put up with him anymore - he is a lazy, disrespectful little arse.

So remove the x box until his behaviour and attitude changes?

We have done before, doesn’t make a massive difference but also I feel at 18 it’s a bit weird?

I would hope an 18 year old was more capable of being organised and getting the work done. If he’s acting like a kid then treat him like one.
How long have you taken it away for?

Probably the longest has been a week I think, can’t really remember tbh as it feels like I’m stuck in Groundhog Day. Would you just remove it?

If he is shouting and banging and on it at all hours? I would take it until he started to work harder at college.

So he can hold down a job but CBA to work for college? Maybe it’s time for him to work full time and move out?

Wolfie I told him that’s what he’ll be doing if kicked out of college! He works all day Sat in a call centre - helpline type thing, quite a responsible job so I just can’t understand his apathy towards college work, especially when he keeps saying it’s what he wants to do! He just seems incapable of linking the two - arrgghh! Thanks for listening!

It’s a degree? Or a levels? He can’t have time to do a degree and a full time job. Let alone x box!!
You’re welcome. The baby books don’t cover this do they?! Grin
