15 Year old DD and contraception?

Hello All! Smile
My recently turned 15 DD told me last week that she has had boyfriends in the past (which of course is news to me! 🙀🙈) although she says she hasn't been sexually active with any of them, so I do believe her and although I think she may be too young I am wondering whether or not I should get her on some form of contraceptives. I would much rather her be safe than sorry at her age and have mentioned this to her. She said she would like to go on some form of it (pill, injection or implant) so would just like to know everybody's recommendations for a teen x

Condoms

My partners mum brought us condoms and then I went to a clinic and got myself the pill.
Worked well for me.
Take your daughter to the doctors / sexual health clinic and have a chat - see what she would prefer.
You can see all the options online beforehand so she can begin to get an idea.

Thanks for the quick responses! I meant a second option, she will be using condoms as well hopefully

I think a lot depends on how well she will take the pill. If she's likely to forget it. Go for another option. Local sexual health service will be able to support her well.

The pill is normally a good starting point.

The implant is 3 years
The injections last 3 months

Both of these if she has side-effects take time to wear off whereas the pill can be stopped straight away.

I think a lot of people started on the mini combined pill (like microgynon)

Also condoms because of STI / HPV etc

Condoms aren't that effective as a main method of contraception. Would recommend using condoms alongside an implant, unless you think she would be a good pill taker.

Yes, my main issue is I worry for whether she will remember to take the pill

Coincide the pill taking with something she does every day around the same time. Get her to set an alarm on her phone so she doesn't miss it.

But I would tell her there are plenty of adults who get pregnant accidentally and with sex there is always a risk of pregnancy.

Ds1 is in year 11, last year at the end of year 10 a girl in their year gave birth. The father was the year below. Eye opening for all those engaged in sexual relationships.

There are ways to have intimacy without having sex.

My DD is also 15 and became sexually active last year after some open chats with me. I wasn't pleased she wanted to sleep with her bf but i was hardly that different at her age. My view was she was scatty ref. remembering things so she has an implant but I also buy condoms for her so greater protection from STIs. I wanted her to wait but am supporting her and when shes back from school during the holidays her bf will stay occasionally so I know she is safe. The local sexual health clinicians were fantastic and I really recommend going there with you DD. Inbox me anytime OP if want to chat more.

Visit the family planning clinic and let them discuss options with her.

I'd use the implant as a starting point - lasts 3 years and she won't have to think about it. If it doesn't suit her they'll take it out after 3 months.

I don't know why anyone would use / recommend the pill when it's less effective and requires remembering to take it at he same time every day. To me that's setting yourself up for failure.
