The negativity!

Anyone else’s teen constantly negative? I’m finding it very difficult to hold a conversation when everything is so negative.
How was Motivation Day today? Boring
How was school camp? Horrible, I’m not going next year. It was dirty, hot/cold, uncomfortable, boring
How’s your teacher? He sucks the fun out of everything
....and so on.

Is it just my dd? How do you deal with it?

God, wait until they get into the real world, have to get up for work everyday and support themselves. Then they’ll have something to moan about.

This (not directed at you) entitlement by children really grates on me.

I ignore it and say well if you don’t like it, what are YOU going to do to change it? Pose an open ended question, what are THEY going to do?

Yes I think that is a good idea thanks NorthernSpirit, I'll give that responses a go. I also think you have a point with 'entitled'...need to think of more way to have them rough it!

ugggh roll on 16 or whenever they start becoming normal human being again

This will help: Get a copy of How to Talk so Teens Will Listen and Listen so Teens Will Talk by Faber and Mazlish. Changed the way I communicated with my son. Made a huge difference.
