I have 3 teen boys, all skinny as rakes. Since they got in from school today, they have eaten..... a baguette, large tub of houmous, 5 doughnuts, a bloomer loaf, dinner plus seconds- chicken, brown rice and veg, 3 yogurts and a packet of Oreos...and it's only 8pm..shock
Should i just stop shopping altogether?! grin

Hmm how old are they? Are you sure they arent smoking weed? Coming home with the munchies.

My 15yr old ds is a gannet too and always complaining no food in the house - it's because I can't keep up!
Having said that dd 13 who is normally very good with food has had large choc bar, crisps, cookie, plate of chips and a roll (busy day for me so treated to take out, and she's veggie doesn't want anything with her chips as doesn't like fish) and almost whole punnet of grapes!

Are they bored? Kids tend to eat when they are bored. That does sound excessive!

Almost certain they aren't smoking weed- i pick them up from school. Although eek! at the thought!
Bored? Maybe..although who could possibly be bored with an xbox and a phone?!gringrin

Sounds about right for teenage boys - they just go through stages where it’s impossible to fill them up, it’s exhausting and expensive!

I have worked out my ds eats 50 quid a week of food at home

No mention of the ruinous financial impact of the teenage boy in sex education lessons. I feel cheated

Yep!!! They think the fridge is magically filled by fairies. They come home from Uni to visit & can empty the fridge in no time. All very tall, thin young men.
In the end I stopped crisps, baked fewer cakes & restricted biscuits. I have no problem with them eating as long as it wasn't junk. Interestingly they started eating more cheeses & making sandwiches rather than a quick eat. They then bought their own junk😁😁😁 which was absolutely fine!😊

What age does this start? DS is 11 - should I start saving up? DD who has always eaten like a bird is suddenly constantly hungry and eating twice what she used to. Is this normal for both sexes as I've always heard it's the boys who do this.

FakeMews Fri 02-Feb-18 14:22:21

Perfectly normal while growing. Mine were like that from 11 to 17ish.
At that point they gradually started eating more like normal adults. Both very tall and skinny.

WTFIsThisVirus Fri 02-Feb-18 14:23:25

Not a boy, but I still eat like that now lol

Parky04 Fri 02-Feb-18 20:25:26

My two DS get through so many bloody sausage rolls!!

Teenageromance Fri 02-Feb-18 21:25:07

Lol at people saying it is boredom or weed. Teenage boys can eat and eat and eat and not put on an ounce of weight. It’s a wonder of nature.

10thingsIhateAboutTheDailyMail Fri 02-Feb-18 21:30:02

Lots of teen girls can too, esp if tall and sporty!

My 2 boys (13 and 15) are driving me mad, food wise,

stickytoffeevodka Sat 03-Feb-18 08:30:19

I did the same as a teenager - for me it was buttery toast! I had some after school, some for dessert and some for a late-night snack!

I never put on any weight but I never really felt full either. I can easily do the same now 😂

CakeUpWall Sat 03-Feb-18 08:49:27

Perfectly normal, and rest assured they do grow out of it. Folk who say it's unusual maybe have never had teenage boys?

ferrier Sat 03-Feb-18 08:52:49

Yup - same here. I haven't found the answer yet.

numbereightyone Sat 03-Feb-18 08:59:03

I think that's quite similar to what happens in my house.

4000 calories a day fir teenaged to grow. It's sometimes like this and sometimes they aren't hungry at all. It sounds like you are providing a good diet though I find bananas help with the munchies and they are cheap too

italiancortado Sat 03-Feb-18 11:01:50

Are you sure they arent smoking weed?

Or they could just be totally normal teenagers who eat loads. Pretty standard stuff tbh. No idea why the first thing would be to think about drugs hmm

BuzzKillington Sat 03-Feb-18 11:06:29

I have 2 teenage boys and they have never done this.

They just don't seem to have that rapacious appetite I've heard of on here. They eat 3 meals a day and don't even snack. 🤔

They both drink litres of water, but I can't really complain about that.

numbereightyone Sat 03-Feb-18 11:52:20

As long as they are growing well BuzzKillington there isn't an issue. Mine drink water too but not litres (that would probably kill their appetite) but lots of milk too. I think they need as much protein as they can get at this age.

Pleasebeafleabite Sat 03-Feb-18 12:01:43

The answer to the high protein requirements in our house is apparently a 20 nugget box from maccie Ds

numbereightyone Sat 03-Feb-18 12:27:58

That's brilliant Pleasebeafleabite grin
