Reasonable home time for ds16

I think 11pm and he scoffs (furiously). He's just finished GCSEs, very sociable and wants to be out all the time. We live in a city, generally easy going and friendly place and it seems that all his mates stay out late. What do other people think?

I think 11pm does sound rather early for a 16-year-old who doesn't have school the next day. My DS is often out later than that and so are most if not all of his friends. Provided your DS has a way of getting home safely then I think midnight or 12.30 would be more reasonable. If the issue is that you go to bed earlier and can't fully relax until he's back then I think it's fair enough to ask him not to be out that late every night.

I think 11 is absolutely fine. Later for parties.

I think 11 is fine for through the week. Otherwise they just get into the habit of long lie ins and it just rubs everyone up the wrong way.

I have a 16 year o,d too. I don't think you can have a set home time-it depends on what they are doing. It needs to be on a case by case basis.

11pm is fine. If he shows he can stick to this for a period of time, then you could allow some flexibility.

Trying to recall when mine were that age it would depend upon what he was doing.

Friends' homes, sports activities, parties etc 23:00 or later is fine.

Hanging round the park or the streets not so much. Not because I think he will be up to no good, but because everyone else will think he is.

Thanks for all your replies. I have been flexible on times, for parties etc but really late every night through the holidays seems too much. I worry about him getting home, though he is sensible (I believe).
