What age did you/your DD start using tampons?

DD who is nearly 14 uses towels and she has been lucky do far in that we don't go swimming that often and she hasn't had to miss out because of her period. I can't remember how old I was when I changed to tampons but I know I felt a lot more confident. A mooncup would be even better but that may be a step too far at this stage!

Pretty much from the time I started periods. I hated (still do) sanitary towels, even the thin ones. I found they made me very itchy (still do!) and I knew from the off that I would always use tampons. I found standard Tampax applicator tampons easiest at first but started using non applicator tampons after about 10 years.

DD's periods started when she was 12½ years old. It's only since she was 15 that she's been using tampons on a regular basis. Before then she used them on holidays only.

Wearing pads after dd was born was horrid. I hated it!

DD seemed a bit grossed out by the idea when I mentioned it when she first started her period, but that was over a year ago now, so I might mention it again.

Im in my 30s and dont use tampons, I hate them. Surely it is up to her if and when she ever uses them

Wings she is a girl of very few words. It's one of the biggest things we worry about with her. She didn't tell me when she started her periods and she doesn't tell me when she's running low on pads, I look in her drawer and discover she only has two left . Maybe I'll buy some tampons for her and let her know they're for her (I only use a mooncup)

I don't like them. But mine are light enough for me not to use anything when swimming so it's never made any difference to me.

I used pads until my late teens. I tried tampons once but just froze trying to insert one. All my friends also used pads so it seemed the normal thing to do whereas tampons seemed just urgh.

Funny things sanitary protection I'm 50 and have dcs and I can't get tampons in, I think they are awful

I used tampons from my second period at age of thirteen. Liberating!

I've actually never really got into tampons, for some reason I'm more drawn to pads. You can definitely go your whole life without tampons, I don't think there's an age by which everyone 'should' have started using them if you see what I mean.
I think it caused me to miss out on swimming for 2 days on holiday once but that was it :)

If you'd like her to be aware of the instructions and stuff just so she knows what she's doing, maybe leave the leaflet on her bed or find a useful youtube video aimed at teens in case she ever does want to try them out.

Not until I was about 15/16 when I deciced to buy a pack and try them out myself but that was mainly because my mum never introduced me to them (I don't think she's ever tried them herself tbh) I never went back to towels after that, wish I had tried them sooner, I'd say give her a range of products to try out and let her work out what's best for herself.

Never! Had a few tries...in my teens then a couple of goes in my 20's but nope....hated them.

Buy some for her in case she wants to try but otherwise leave her to it.

I was 14 when I started using them, but my daughter didn't until almost 16. We talked about them frequently but she just wasn't comfortable with the idea. She's now 17 and always uses them. I say offer information and support. This decision needs to be hers. It's her body and she needs to feel in control of what she does with it.
