My 16 yr old son booked self into hospital saying he had suicidal thoughts. This happened 3 weeks ago and was a complete surprise. I have been feeling a whole rollercoaster of emotions and long to speak to someone with shared experience. My ds has the support of camhs and I am doing my best to keep everything normal.... but you know it is so painful to be so helpless and watch my ds struggling. Long to hear others stories and welcome advice. X

Dd is not a teen, she is now 26 but suffers terribly from anxiety, depression and OCD. She had a full breakdown two years ago and is back living at home with no job. It's just about getting through the days. No answers for you,but sympathy. The fact he booked into hospital is hugely positive. He knew he needed help and sought it out. It is very hard when your child is mentally ill.

A good friend today finally confided her sons full story to me. She had previously told me some things but I didn't want to ask her questions then. Her 17 yo son has been seing a councillor for a few months. The councillor phoned her last week to warn her to look out for suicidal thoughts over the holidays. She is in quite a state over it as she had had no idea of anything like that being a possibility.
I think our teens today have to cope with different things to what we had to and it can be quite difficult to support them through it.
Your son did a brave and grown up thing and it is good that he has the support that he sought out.
