Hi all, please tell me this is normal! My 13 year old is literally like a zombie. It is getting much worse. He doesn't want to talk to me about his feelings.
I'm a single mum and work in quite a demanding job and have believed it's important to show him the right thing. I have a mortgage too so I can't afford to be at home.
I ensure he has everything he needs for school and I try and get him to play with his friends and he just went to Austria for a week on a school trip. However, no matter what activity I put him in or try and get him involved in things, I'e a walk with me, or a weekend away, his behaviour is just bizarre.
He mumbles when I talk to him, he takes up to three hours to eat his dinner sometimes and he sleeps a lot!
I'm so fed up and at my wits end to get him to just be chatty. Sometimes he literally walks past his friends and won't say hello while they all try to talk to him.
Academically he's doing well, in most of the top sets but I struggle as I'm a very bubbly chatty person while he just keeps everything in.
I asked him to come and speak to me and he just started crying. I asked him if I did something wrong and he said no, then I asked him if something was bothering him and then he said no again!!
Anything you ask him to do is in serious slow mode. Taking a shower is an hour, washing a plate, 10 minutes, hoovering his room, 45 minutes. But if I get him up late for school (by late I mean he leaves at 7:30am to go and do homework because he downloaded a virus onto his PC) he can be out he door in 15 minutes and that includes eating breakfast!
