What do your teens have for breakfast before school?

DS age 15 & DD age 13 barely touch breakfast before school, this morning DD managed half a smoothie Confused

They are good eaters, but neither seem to manage breakfast before school. Too rushed? Too early?

Please tell me what your teens eat?

They just have a cup of tea, maybe a biscuit.

Toast or fruit in hand as they leave.
They did get an option if a brekkie in school.

Cereal normally. If they are running late then they take a cereal bar, banana or chocolate crepe to eat on the way.
Weekends, they eat later and tend to have more of a brunch - bacon, eggs, pancakes etc.

Ds (17) Sometimes a bagel, or cereal or porridge but quite often just some orange juice...says it's too early to eat and he feels nauseous....at weekends will have brunch if it's at midday!!

DS (14) has a very rushed bowl of cereal and DD(12) is currently going through a porridge phase, although in the past has had just cereal.

DS1. 2 slices of toast and a glass of water! Sometimes a bowl of cereal

DS2. 2 brioche with Nutella, orange, belvita breakfast cookie and glass of milk

DD. 2 slices of toast, fruit and a glass of milk.

cereal (try and avoid anything too sugary) and milk
porridge (if it's made for her!)
toast and marmite or toast and jam
and, on a good day poffertjes or pancakes with apple compote

but I live in a country where a sliver of chocolate between two pieces of (admittedly v good) white bread here is seen as a healthy start to the day!! Grin

Both of them (dds 17 and 14) often can't manage anything as they say they feel sick. I used to be the same so I don't force it. On a good day they might each have half an avocado on a slice of toast, but that's very rare. If they're having anything, dd1 might have a yogurt and dd2 has a tiny bowl of cereal or pot of chocolate mousse. This morning dd1 had a pear and dd2 had nothing.

My 15yo and 12yo don't usually have breakfast either. They don't want it before school, they'd rather have more time in bed.

I have tried to encourage them but they don't go for it.

Thanks for all the replies, I think mine sound pretty normal then, I just felt like a bad mother sending them off to school with just a swig of tea and bite of toast between them Blush

Both of mine just have a bowl of cereal and two cups of coffee. They are usually too rushed to have anything else.

Mine normally dashes out of the door with cereal bar or banana in hand. she often doesn't feel like eating it until breaktime though. Some people are just not breakfast people.

DS never wants to eat straight after getting up. I'm the same.

He is 15 and has a glass of OJ and alternates between one Weetabix (I get the new protein one now) with milk and far too much sugar, half a bagel with Philadelphia cheese or a fried egg and toast but he just dunks the toast in the yolk.

15 year old DD eats well most of the time, but doesn't feel like eating much at breakfast time, and is a bit fussy about normal breakfast foods such as toast and cereal.

Recently, she's had a slice of toast with mashed up avocado, and enjoys that. Sometimes she'll eat part of a cinnamon bun heated in the microwave. She also likes omelettes or French toast, but they take a bit longer to do, and she's usually in a rush!

DS is 16 and is usually downstairs in time for a fairly relaxed cup of tea before he gets his bus. Sometimes he'll have most of a slice of toast or half a bagel, but usually just tea. I don't like to eat first thing either so I don't push it and he usually gets a panini or something similar at morning break.

During his GCSE exams I was up extra early, coaxing his appetite with smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels(!) and egg on toast, but now he's got his grades I'm leaving him to it again Grin

14 year old ds often just has a cup of tea and I throw a banana at him as he is leaving the house. Reason being he would rather stay in bed an have an extra 20 mins sleep than drag himself downstairs for breakfast. Drives me nuts. On the days I'm not working sometimes I will be nice and make him a bacon sandwich or something which usually tempts him out of bed a bit sooner.

Mine has homemade soup or leftovers but prefers a tin of Heinz soup!

My ds has always liked a substantial breakfast whereas he's not so bothered about lunch. He has scrambled egg or beans on toast. Occasionally he also has a few rashers of bacon or a sausage.

DS1 is 12 and eats like a horse in the mornings. Sausage and eggs, scrambled eggs on toast with beans, cheese and hem omelette etc. Its obviously entirely dependent on the child (and I seem to have an expensive one).

I didn't often have breakfast at that age.

My children's school has a catering outlet to deal with the fact they are starving by break and apparently 'they all' eat bacon sandwiches then.

DSs (16 & 15) have a mahoosive bowl of cereal each, a glass of fruit juice and either a banana or fruit salad plus a slice of toast. They'd eat more if they got up earlier.

Mine would rather an extra 15 minutes in bed than eat breakfast. It makes me feel like a crap mum. I haven't eaten breakfast, willingly, since I was 10... Nagging mother...
