My 12 yo year 8 broke his finger this weekend, but bravely went to school today ( train ride). I picked him up from the station as normal, but he now can't find his phone. It is an iPhone, which he got for his 11th birthday 18 months ago. He is obviously heart broken and I am really torn. I think he has done well keeping it this long ( never broken or lost it) and I feel that he had a lot to deal with, with the finger and the beginning of term, so am feeling like I should maybe swallow the cost of an early (6 months) upgrade (the money isn't an issue). Or should I make him use a "brick" until the contract is up ? Over to you mums net jury.

I'd get him a new one. I'm sure people will disagree and say it's his fault he lost it, but everyone loses something important from time to time and to me it's a fact of life that things get lost and not something to get worked up about.

First though, if he has Find My IPhone enabled, check to see if it's not picking the phone location up at home in case he's just misplaced it. i 'lost' my phone and found it down the back of the couch a week later, of course after I'd already bought a new one

You could probably get a decent one quite cheaply just for 6 months, might be worth asking friends/family if they have an old smart phone lying around, just till the upgrade. I never did anything with my old phones, so you might get lucky that somebody could loan you their old one.
I lent my iPhone 4 to my friends son who'd lost his..he broke the screen on mineHmmhey ho teenagers!

Good news!

Love mn - when a big fragile power guzzling i phone and a small 2 week battery tough £10 job are compared, it is the latter that is called a brick...

My son has damaged his iPhone so many times I have threatened to not replace it! I took out insurance when he got his upgrade last time. I would replace.
