DD acting different towards me in public?

My DD 13 morphs into being surly and moody towards me in public, bordering on rude TBH. She actively discourages me from attending any school events or going anywhere in public with her (unless is shopping of course). What's really annoying is that she perfectly lovely and smiley at home and is not your typical moody teenager most of the time.

I know how embarrassing parents can be when you are this age so I keep a low profile when friends are about. She gets plenty freedom and I just find it hurtful that her attitude changes so much in public and don't expect to be treated like something you'd scrape off your shoe.

Is this normal?

Very normal. She'll come out the other side at about 18.

Which doesn't mean you need to put up with this for five years, or even five minutes!

Act like a toddler, get treated like one. Warn, then remove phone, lifts, new things and so on until she gets it.
