Our 18yr old son has split from his long term gf today after finding out she slept with someone else last night. He's devastated, so upset. Really feel for him - how best do I support him? A levels are 2 weeks away...

Always tough on the aggrieved party.....just be there to support him, make him his favourite food and don't nag him. What are his plans for after A levels?.... If Uni, it's unlikely relationship would have lasted anyway....
Does he have mates he can hang out with?.... Maybe he can plan a holiday away with them after exams

That's crap Dorothy. I know how you feel. DD was absolutely devastated after splitting with long term bf last year, but luckily had just sat AS exams. Things are rumbling with present bf, but I've pretty much advised her not to upset the apple cart during A-levels (never thought I'd say that coz I'd love her to split with him ultimately! He's bad news).

I feel for you. I'd give masses of support. No nagging re: chores, messy room, anything like that. Gentle encouragement re: revision. And hopefully, as exams are so near, he'll have done enough already to get him through.

Finally, this situ is not uncommon and they often end up back together anyway.

Good luck to your DS.

Be there to talk, ideally while doing something else like cooking or driving. Tell him it'll be ok. There isn't much else you can do. Poor him.

I had this happen when I was young and I decided to throw myself into my exams and study to take my mind off it. It seemed to work too. I had tearful times at night but the rest of the time I just focused on my exams.

agree with Kez ... maybe every cloud silver lining and all that ...

as for OP, how about just being nice (ok more nice than usual), normal and positive?
