looking for help for a teenager with a parent with cancer

I wanted to reach out as my ds has a good teenage friend who is struggling. Her dm has cancer, but is not really 'acknowledging' it and her teenage dd is having some issues dealing with the situation. There is a dh, who is DD dad, but I think she is acting more as a carer than perhaps she can cope with at the moment. She's 14, in year 10, and has done health issues of her own. She's having troubles dealing with these as well as her dmum's illness.

I'm really looking for numbers, like Childline, but for carers or children of those suffering from cancer or other life limiting illnesses?

Macmillan might be a good place to start, they should be able to sign post her to some support at least.

Also try young minds the mental health charity. They have some good information with a section about young carers, which is close to what this girl is dealing with.

Thanks for your replies.... I'm going to pass on details through ds. Today, we were a bit more practical, just delivering some food and stuff. She feels very young and vulnerable at the moment, but as I don't know the family at all, it's hard to know what to do.

beachys is the hospice involved yet? My partners DD was 13 when her DM passed..they may be able to help. It is a very difficult situation and so very caring of you to want to help..

Thanks, really not sure of stages, or if the hospice is involved. I had a lovely note back from the mum saying thanks for the food I dropped. I was worried she's be annoyed that her DD had been talking about their situation, but that's not the case. I'm also pleased the DD made it to school yesterday as she has missed a lot recently.
