13th birthday

Im just wondering how much people give/spend on their child for their 13th birthday? My eldest daughter will be 13 soon and weve decided she is having money so we can go shopping together. I know it all depends on income etc, just wondering really tia x

I don't think there are any guidelines for how much you should spend on a 13th birthday regardless of your income.

We are going halves on a £300 guitar on our DS 17th birthday. I'd love to be able to afford to buy him it outright but that would be stupid given our finances. £150 feels generous. He has wanted this type of guitar for ages and I know he'll play it.

For her 12th birthday, DD asked for money to give to a charity! I admit this is a not very stealthy stealth boast, but on the other hand, she has never been as generous since!

DS has a non-European friend whose family don't seem to celebrate birthdays. They don't give presents. But they give presents at Christmas and at another annual celebration.

We don't live near any relations so I make a big fuss of birthday boys and girls - birthday breakfast, home-made birthday cake, birthday dinner, Happy Birthday banner goes up in the sitting room. We're not a huggy demonstrative family though.

DS will be busy on his birthday so I will probably have a low key birthday dinner and a groupon restaurant coupon for him + 3 friends to have pizza or similar in the spring holidays.

Dc had perhaps £150 too. An expensive keepsake item of jewellery from me then vouchers for shopping spent on Jack Wills and Smiggle.

More than I would normally spend btw but I had a bonus and it felt like a milestone.

To be honest, we aren't planning to spend much more than usual on DD2's 13th. So between £50-£100 (would normally spend £50, she fancies a fitbit or similar so might go a bit more).

I have b/g twins who have a birthday close to Christmas. I would normally spend about £100 - sometimes a mixture of cash and presents. This year, it felt like a milestone and I got them both a chrome book (which I was considering buying during the year anyway) as they were half price in Argos so only £129 each. I also bought them expensive trainers - again half price in a sale so worked out £40ish - and then a few little bits. So I probably spent almost 200 each.
They both went separately for a meal with friends - so that was another £60 each. I think that will be the last of the birthday parties though.
I did really overdo it - but I have said subsequent birthdays will not be as lavish !
