Teenagers

14 year old begging to go to an 'under 18s foam party' FFS

Am I right in thinking foam parties in Ibiza etc are an opportunity for a grope and a touch up in the foam? Or am I over-reacting here?

This is at a local nightclub in London, from 7pm-11pm.

I would let him, I used to go with my friends to similar at that age...had a great time!! Some mild groping involved but teenagers do that anywhere!

They have foam parties at our local youth club. It's in a church hall and supported by the vicar.
I'm pretty confident that there is just a lot of laughing and chucking foam about.

I've heard of that at all! They're quite old school though. I used to go to them at uni. Can't imagine anyone using the opportunity to sexually assault people

I've never heard of your interpretations at all!
Surely it's just like a water fight for bigger kids... something that's a bit of a laugh. Doesn't appeal to me at my great age, but you can see that teens would like it.

I think you're imagining loads of sophisticated 18 year olds there.
There won't be- all the 16 +s have fake id.
Your dc will be the oldest there [smile

I can't see the issue, if your child is reasonably responsible! Sounds like a bit of fun to me, I'd have liked it at that age Smile
I can't imagine foam will encourage any more groping than normally goes on in places!

My DDs used to love the local foam party for under 18s.

It's exactly like Backforgood said, a giant water fight with foam!

I'd let my 14yr old go, I've never heard of the groping thing.

Over 18?

He won't be allowed in. Let him go and queue in the rain and make the Hmm face when you inevitably have to trudge out in your slippers to get him.

Oh, under 18.

Yes, let him go. Why not?

No idea where the groping myth comes from. Those Ibiza Uncovered programs have a lot to answer for...

It's under 18s.

When I used to go to under 18s, there were wet t shirt 'contests'

Those were the days (not)!

Pfff, let him go, have some fun!

Ok maybe I am being a bit precious. If it was mainly their age I wouldn't mind, but I'm imagining 17 year olds checking them out (DD and her friends look much older than 14).

I'm finding all this teen parenting hard, I don't know when to let go and when to be firm.

For instance, DD went to a sleepover a couple of nights ago, I assumed the parents were at home and the girls would just chill out watching tv/ipads/phones then eventually sleep at a ridiculous hour, like they all do round here. However, I was driving through the high street at 10pm and she was outside the chip shop with her mates Shock. I stopped and took them back to the friend's house, she said her parents were out. Would you be annoyed at this? This isn't some sleepy village, it's London, it's not safe for them to be roaming around the streets that late.

Sorry that's twice I've mentioned London in my posts Grin.

I used to go to these when I was about 14. 17 year olds wouldn't be seen dead there.

And there isn't that much foam I don't think? Enough to cover your ankles, maybe knees, but certainly not enough to get away with anything untoward.

All the 17 year olds will be at the over 18s night

I went to these as a 16 year old. Places were full of drugs, mostly legal highs.

I wonder where it is - in London, but neither teen has ever mentioned a foam party!

How old is your DD? My two are often in chippies/Morleys at very late hours with mates.

17 year olds wouldn't be seen dead at an under 18s night. We used to refer to them as 'nappy nights' when I was a teenager in the 90s.

I think I would let her go.

I wouldn't have an issue with the foam party. As pps have said, the older kids won't be seen dead there...

The sleep over with no parents is a bit different though. We had a running rota of 'empties' when I was a teenager and probably all my ahem formative experiences took place then. It is, essentially, letting your kids stay out all night unsupervised, and whether that's in London or not, it's not a good idea. My DM wise up quickly and I was only allowed to stay out if a parent called in to say there would be supervision.

I wouldn't have a problem with the foam party. Most night clubs have under 18 nights.

I wouldn't necessarily have an issue with her being out at 10pm either. Did the parents come back and stay there overnight or were they away all night?

The groping thing isn't a myth sadly. I was assaulted during a foam party once. In theory it could have happened anywhere, but the foam was a nice cover for whoever did it, as there was no way to figure out who it was.
