AS Mocks

DS has been increasingly disengaged with his studies - he just told me he got a U in one of his 3 mocks. For those of you with teens at sixth form, would you expect contact from the school about this ? To me a U grade is pretty alarming- he needs an overall B in this subject to get on the uni course he has applied for.
He is v defensive and hates it when I contact teachers.

I'm not sure about all schools but DH is a deputy headmaster and they are having a meeting tomorrow about AS mocks and will be sending letters out to all those under target next week. So you may hear anyway in the next week or so. When did he sit the mocks? DH's AS students only sat last week

What subject is it? Are you talking about A2 mocks-if he's applied for uni surely he's in year 13?

A U is working but not guaranteed fail-there's time to pull it back if he starts working now. Do you think he'd get on with a tutor?

I agree a U is alarming if he has applied for uni and needs a B.
Even with zero revision I would have thought a B grade student should get a C or D at this stage?
Yes I'd expect to hear from school. We get 2 reports a term with grades in class and tests, plus a parents evening in the Autumn term and after mocks.

Hello,

Just a bit of background, my daughters friend got a U in her pe mock and came out with an A in her actual exam. From personal experience, I don't think all teens try too hard in their mocks because they don't have the pressure/anxiety of the actual exams. If he's not revising properly by Easter I would put some pressure on him.
Hope everything goes well with his actual exams!
