Does anyone know anything about CreepyPasta?

My 13 year old DD1 and some of her friends have started using CreepyPasta but I am not really sure what it is. From what I have seen from my google search it is about telling and reading scary stories.

Is it suitable or do I need to look at blocking it?

Thank you.

Ooohh... I don't think I'd want a 13-year-old looking at it.

It is just creepy stories, submitted by other people. There are a lot of...themes?...though. Like Slenderman, who gained notoriety on CreepyPasta, and was then the cause of two 13-year-olds who lured their 12-year-old friend into the forest and stabbed her 19 times to "please" Slenderman. They're being tried as adults for first degree murder.

Obviously not everyone who goes on there will believe that it's real but there's an atmosphere of realism there - people posting regular "accounts" of encounters with creepy things, frequent new stories, lists of what readers must do to "please" the spirits, that I'd be concerned that either young teens could get confused about what is real and what isn't, or that they'd scare themselves half to death.

If she's a mature and sensible 13-year-old, you could just talk to her about avoiding some of the more graphic stories, and trusting her to talk to you if she becomes worried/obsessed/etc. I'd still check her history to see what she was actually reading though...there's some horrible rape/murder "stories" on there.

It's a massive collection of scary stories online. Some are good, some are bad, some are really really scary, some are very gory and violent, some have swearing, some are sexual.

Honestly I'm not sure I'd let a 13 year old read it. Some of the creepy pastas I've read have stayed with me and given me nightmares and I'm 21 and not easily spooked.

They can be quite scary but you would struggle to block them as they are across a number of different websites.

Sorry it was her birthday in December and she is actually 14 blush

She says her friends go on it more than her but I can't be sure she is being entirely truthful about that.

I will speak to her about it.

Thank you.

It says on the front page of the site that if you are under 18 you must show it to your parents and get their permission to access it.

The site says it is moderated with an intended audience of 18+

Would you let your daughter read Stephen Kings books, if not why letter read badly written stories in that genre?

They're 13 why are you worried. Would you not let her watch horror films?
