What did you buy your dd for her 13th birthday?

Dd's 13th birthday is coming up soon and we are both stuck for ideas for a present.

She has just had a new phone for Xmas, older dd is buying her a nice case for it.

Dd says the only thing she would like is a laptop. She actually has quite a bit of money saved up which she was thinking about using for a laptop. So not sure now whether to buy it for her or to go half and half..? How much would I need to spend for a decent-ish one?

She has a Pandora bracelet so thought maybe a charm for it? She has plenty of clothes and isn't in to make up yet.

Any other ideas please?

Mine wants tickets to a YouTube convention thing in London in August, I have not decided whether she will get them or not. She doesn't need anything though so even if I don't get tickets for this, I might get cinema vouchers or costa vouchers for her to spend. Not sure about laptops but you could do half and half, we told dd if she saved enough for half an iPad we would give her the rest of the money for xmas which we did.

We bought our eldest DD a white BabyG watch for her 13th as her main present. Her 14th is coming up soon so on the list so far is a Pandora ring.

Personalised necklace with her initial/birthstone or name?

DD's present was a trip to the Harry Potter Studio Tour, plus we stayed overnight in a Travelodge and then went to see Wicked the following day (we're a long way from London, hence making the most of it!). It probably cost us more than a laptop, though Grin - in fact it ended up being our main holiday last year.

I think tickets / a special outing is nice at that age if there isn't any 'stuff' they want.

She went to HP last year!

Ah . . . Grin
A different trip? I was thinking about taking DD to the Young Adult literature convention at London Comic Con (the same ticket gets you into both) if I could face it.

An iPad. Although we didn't "buy" it as OH had accrued enough airmiles for him to use them. (he was a very frequent long haul flyer).

Her other present, which we did pay for, was a trip to the Harry Potter studios.

Go for the laptop if that's what she really wants.... If she has enough money to pay the difference from what you usually spend on her.

BackforGood · 20/01/2016 00:05

I'd give her money to put with hers, for a laptop. No point in giving her stuff she doesn't want, when you know there's something she does want.

I seem to remember dd had a new football and some nail varnish Grin

Dancergirl · 20/01/2016 21:29

Now she's not sure if she wants a laptop, argghhh!

A few toiletries from M&S but then, she did have a costly Bat Mitzvah just 3 months prior to her birthday. She got a Samsung tablet for that.

youngestisapsycho · 20/01/2016 22:24

My DD had a Fuji instax mini 8 camera.... All her friends have one and seemed to be the 'in thing'. She has used it a lot.

Dancergirl · 20/01/2016 22:30

Dd had that camera last year young and I got her some new film for it for Christmas!

One possibility is something for her room. We have promised she can have her room redecorated this year and new curtains etc. I'm sure she'd love some things for it, new duvet cover, cushions, maybe some lights....but I can't really buy that now until we've decided the colour scheme.

A teenager survival kit. A nice bag with lots of bits inside including fun and cool stuff but also useful stuff like a just in case sanitary towel bag and a leg shaver.

Dancergirl · 20/01/2016 22:46

Wonder if she'd like a leather jacket....?

DD has a leather jacket (DH extra dad points for spotting it cheap in the charity shop!) and she's worn it loads. (It's also good because it doesn't count as a coat but is still warm and reasonably waterproof Grin )

Dancergirl · 21/01/2016 14:19

Thanks sadik any ideas where I can look?

DD's came from Help the Aged! I think it's maybe New look, but not from this season.

Kat22 · 21/01/2016 14:46

My 13 yr old had a leather jacket for Christmas & loves it. It was from New Look. For her 14th birthday she thinks she wants a phone contract. Stuff for her room has gone down well, also games.

Dancergirl · 21/01/2016 14:47

Real leather or faux kat?
