Without my knowledge. She knew I wouldn't be happy. They shouldn't be able to have it done with out parental consent but I've had a look at the legal side and appently they can.

She'll soon get rid of it once she realises how much it'll make her breath smell!

Yes they can.

A tongue piercing isn't the end of the world. Save your angst for when she gets a tattoo.

I did this at 16. My parents didn't know and it was fucking agony trying to eat 'normally' when they'd told me to eat liquid/soft foods only.

I took it out when I got pregnant at 18

Oh well, not to worry. Piercings can be removed if she ever changes her mind.

I wouldnt be too concerned about this, she can take it out when bored with it and no one will ever know, no harm done. Unlike my DS and his tattoo which I hate.

Yeah it's not a big deal. If that's all she does to rebel then I'd consider yourself lucky.

I had a face/body full of bits of metal that were all discarded throughout my 20's. Definitely not worth having a big drama over. Tell her you're miffed and show her pictures of the damage that they can cause to teeth.

Yup I had mine done when I was 16. No parental consent needed. I enjoyed mine. Ive had every piercing imaginable ..Although eating (with a tongue piercing) is difficult. spaghetti nearly killed me several times and the amount of bars I swallowed was sky high. I had to take mine out when I was 18 as my tongue just started hurting randomly. Piercings are fine... It's when she starts getting tattoos (I've got 8).

My advice would be to totally ignore it. Don't comment on it don't react in any way. She is at the age where she want's a crazy reaction, don't give her the satisfaction.

She is 16. You could be a Grandmother.

Have a little perspective. Her tongue. Her life. Its legal.

fig that must have hurt. They swell up enormously before healing, so I am in the ignore camp & be amused by her stewing in her own recklessness. Any painkillers in the house?

I had my nose pierced at Reading Festival when I was 16 the hole got infected and I had to get ab's from dr.
Another who was pregnant at 18 but the nose hole had closed up by then.

I had mine done at 16, no parental consent needed. My parents didn't make a big deal about it, just told me they didn't really like it. 12 years later and it's still there. I normally wear a pink stud that isn't noticeable at all.

I'd be a bit miffed too.
Trust and respect is something to be earnt and I'd be questioning why she went behind your back. Obviously it's because you'd say no but does she not think that she can talk to you?
She's braver than me, the pain is one thing but it would be nothing compared to the wrath of my dad Shock
But yes it could be worse, I got pregnant at 17 so my dad would of probably preferred a tongue piercing.

I had mine done at 17, without parental consent, obviously. My mum wasn't impressed but tbf I already had several holes in my ears and a lip ring by then, so hey ho. All the others went long ago (don't even wear earrings any more!) but I still have my tongue bar nearly 10 years later. I don't have smelly breath, my teeth are perfect, and most people don't realise I have it done until I choose to tell them! In the big scheme of things it's really not that bad! If that's the worst DD ever does I'll consider myself to have got off lightly Grin

Could be worse, I had my clit hood done at 16

Lurleene · 05/01/2016 20:06

My DD did this at 16. I hated looking at it but was really worried about her damaging her teeth more than anything.

She had to take it when she had a minor op and within just a few hours the hole had closed up to the point where she couldn't get the piercing back in.

  • take it out, I mean

Meh, no biggie.
It doesn't make your breath smell or do anything weird, it's fine.

Report
Fairylea · 05/01/2016 20:08

I'd just say it's lovely and you're going to get one yourself. Wink

maz210 · 05/01/2016 20:10

Brilliant idea there from Fairylea, nothing will put her off it more than if her mum also has one!

I got mine done at 15, had had my lip done at 14.

My DM was not best pleased.

It has impacted on my life in no way, shape or form. I have a degree, a grown up job, a husband, a mortgage and a 3yo.

Pick your battles, would be my suggestion.

(And I still have my tongue stud!)
