I wonder if you can help me, I love Mumsnet but don't often post. This isn't very major but I'd like some ideas. My DS is 15 and has been dating a lovely girl since August time. She's 16 next week.
She's told him not to bother with a gift, but DH and I have said he needs to get her something, even if it's just a box of chocs. He's not got a Saturday job yet but does get pocket money for doing chores around the house.
What are your suggestions for a cheap but thoughtful birthday gift for a 16 year old girl?

A night at the movies together? He can pitch that just right and choose a film she'll love. Much better than dull chocs or a bit of jewellery which takes a lot to get right and not OTT or poundland esque .

A book if she's bookish. A cd?

On the whole I reckon movies .

Thanks ladies, they're great ideas. I think they're planning a night out this weekend (she love's horror films!) And maybe a cute pair of earrings will be a nice surprise too.

Thanks for you help xx

My DS (14) and his girlfriend have both bought each other phone cases for their birthdays. They did the ones where you choose your own photos to personalise them, and both used photos of them together. Sweet!

I agree with the Lush or Paperchase idea depending on her personality. Loves smellies etc Lush. Likes drawing, writing etc Paperchase. Can't go wrong loads of gorgeous stuff in both
