Ds's room needs decorating and updating a bit. All ideas would be useful please. Bedding, colour, theme, storage.

Obviously ' a mess' is the first answer to the header Wink

When I was a teenager, one of my friends' dads painted one wall yellow and handed her a red and black permanent marker and basically told her to do whatever she wanted on there. We all wrote messages, she doodled on it. It was amazing! Although... teenage boys do have that irritating habit of drawing cocks on everything Grin Maybe a blackboard wall would be safer?

Recently did my DS2 room, just turned 13. Went for an 'urban' theme - 3 walls grey, one wall in a red brick wallpaper from Next. Bought the Kallax shelving in black from IKEA and a white desk. Navy curtains and a NY skyline duvet from Dunhelm. Didn't break the bank but really pleased with the overall result !

Ds's room is grey walls with black and grey curtains with either grey or black bedding.

Its not dark and dismal, it is rather nice (when its tidy.....)

He chose the colours and the duvet set.

DS2 (15) was lucky to inherit DS1s bedroom as his study last year. He's recently decorated it in Orange and dark grey walls, beige Berber carpet and has black ikea cube units and desks as well as a large inherited oak unit/bookcase. I think the black and orange nets were a step too far but he loves it. He has lots of framed prints and some Banksy canvases on the walls as well.

His bedroom we redid when he was 13, it has pale blue walls, cream carpets, dark blue curtains. It's very small just room for bookcase, bed and chest of drawers but he has some framed artwork and it's lovely and calm for sleeping/reading.

DS1 is not quite a teenager but we've just redone his room and don't plan on changing it for a while. Mainly white walls with one painted Navy blue (which is the new grey according to all the design magazines). Navy bedding with two large extra throws at the end of the bed for a bit of texture and lots of cushions so that he can lounge around on the bed (its a kingsize), old second hand chunky pine furniture painted grey and the curtains are grey, navy and light blue striped fabric.

He has a good desk space and task lighting with a decent chair so that he can use the space for studying, big notice board above the desk. Plenty of space for books on a large bookcase, space for his stereo and music, nice bedside lamps to avoid eye strain when reading at night. We also replaced his plug sockets with sockets which also have two usb ports (less than £15 in screwfix)

Then he has two large canvas pictures of classic marvel comic covers on the large white wall. These can be very easily switched out if when he grows out of them.

He is very lucky in that he has his own en suite bathroom and so he has lots of space in there for toiletries, towels, laundry basket etc.

Ds loves green so his room is painted lime green with cream/ neutral curtains but on the fourth wall is a wallpaper photo mural of spring trees. It is like being in the forest. He loves it!

Its white, every single wall. He then has white bed linen and red accessories, London themed. Figured it's easier to just change the accessories when he gets bored with it. All furniture is white too. Laminate floor.

Fist 2 are DS1's (age 14) room, it;s actually been a bit swapped round now but you'll get the idea. The last photo is DS2's (age 13) room, now covered in posters :)

Yes - my immediate response was "a pit" Grin

ds's needs redoing now - he covered it in posters and now he's taken them down you can see it needs redoing, but, when he was about 14 when it was last done, he chose dark greens and a dark aqua colour - all a bit gloomy for my liking, but it did look nice enough if a bit dark and it was what he wanted.
With painted walls, or painted lining paper, it's easy enough to change once they emerge from the gloom years though.

DS's room was very pale blue, with bookshelves and a bedside locker and a desk and chair. Carpet was beige, blinds were white, no curtains. He had a few Boy Scout memories on a shelf and sports posters on the walls. Very basic in other words. He had a blue duvet sort of the same colour as the walls. DS didn't want a theme of any kind, just something very plain. He actually kept it very neat.
