At DDs school the students are planning a post-exams trip, which is a week in Partytown on a Mediterranean island.

Would you let your DC go?

What age?

It is after IB, so the students will be mainly 18, with some 17 or 19.

Mine went and had an amazing time. What a fantastic end to such hard work and stress.

Yes, I went for a fortnight and had the best time ever. Will let my DD go when she gets to that age.

I think after IB it's fine, although it depends on the age of your child I think if they were one of the younger ones I'd maybe suggest that 17 is under the drinking age and therefore not that happy for party town. But happy for them to go to somewhere else with their friends for a week.

If their in the older age group I'm not sure how you'd be able to stop them their grown ups.

DS1 went and survived. I wasn't thrilled with the idea but he was 18 and an adult and paid for himself.
He endured rather than enjoyed it Grin

Thanks for the replies and encouragement - the whole thing was sort-of against my better judgement, so it is helpful to hear from people whose DCs have survived! DD is one of the organising team so I have become involved myself.

Almost the whole year-group will be going, so around 100 people. Does that change anything?

I'd say so!

DS went with 3 friends and they shared a 2 bedroom apartment. Getting all the travel sorted for 4 was a challenge, although teenage boys are not, in my experience, good at organising. They went with long lists of dos and don'ts. My big concern was the danger of one going off alone and being a target for muggers (not uncommon in certain party resorts). Another of the mothers was worried about the mix of alcohol and swimming.

Umm yes that changes things a lot!! The teenagers I jave in mind went there was only 7 of them.

As your child is one of the organising group I think you'd struggle to say no but how reasonable are they would be then be open to you suggesting a smalle group going

They want it to be open to the whole year group, so not a smaller group at all. Close to 100 are interested, and over half of these have already paid the deposit. Apparently, the graduating class of her school has done this for the past several years.

I just feel slightly uncomfortable about it. The schedule that they have come up with 12 days, so 11 nights in total, so it is more costly than in previous years.

fine as long as she pays - at 18 you can't stop her. Also remind her that travel insurance doesn't pay out for drunken accidents, drink doesn't allow you to fly and she needs to watch for spiking and drugs. And yes, swimming pissed is also a bad idea.

that said, most of them survive.

it will be one of the nasty swill and puke places but that's what they are for.
