What do your brace wearers eat?

DS has just started his orthodontic treatment with a removable brace, and will be getting fixed braces, top and bottom, in the Spring.

What do your teens eat for snacks? We've been told to cut right back on sugar. We're ok for meals I think.

I was thinking:

Yoghurts
Banana
Melon
Cereal like weetabix
Toast (but only the middle bit!)

I have a newborn and my brain is fried. Can you give us some inspiration?

Thanks!

I am a brace wearer at 41 years old! I started treatment a few months ago & have a removable brace (I had fixed braces when I was a teenager). I take my brace out to eat & drink, and I eat everything I use to eat before the brace, I just clean my teeth after each meal & snack.

DS was told to avoid really hard things like crusty bread, toffees etc that might snap the brace, but apart from that he just ate normally

Absolutely everything, she smiled nodded and ignored.

She is, however, absolutely brilliant at cleaning every nook and cranny.

Honestly, I assume he's a teen. Any rules will last 3.5 seconds.

He really is. And a hungry teen at that.

I'd like to at least start with good habits. If I give in and let him eat what he wants so soon it'll be about of a wasted opportunity to change his not so great habits.

My DD(16) has had hers for 10 months; eats almost anything - cuts up apples and avoids fizzy drinks, eats copious amounts of toast, bagels etc with no problems, and according to the ortho she keeps everything really clean (which was the biggest surprise as she's a lazy madam!) Her ortho said one of the worse things are ridged or kettle crisps (causes most breakages.)

DS used to take his out to eat, so didn't need to change his diet really. It didn't seem to have a negative impact as the orthodontist always seemed very happy with progress, cleanliness and so on.

DD is just coming to the end of 2 years treatment.

The only excluded food is toffees.
Apples need to be cut up.
Fizzy drinks have been (even more) limited
Limited sweets especially between meals.
