Sensitive issue with DD

I had a rubbish experience at M&S they measured me as 36B and even going for a larger cup size constricted me. With help from the style and beauty board and an excellent lady at John Lewis I'm now in a far more comfy 36F so a massive difference. Pop over to S&B and they'll explain how to measure her yourself properly.

I was a late budder too!

Another flat chest until 17 and then big boobs very quickly. I'm now a 34GG but didn't need a bra at 17!

OK, if she was measured at M&S then almost definitely she's in the wrong size. John Lewis are pretty good as are some branches of HoF and Debenhams. Try measuring according to the blog linked above and that should give her a starting point.

just measure her yourself - around her ribcage under her breasts - that is the band size.

She was measured at marks and spencer, I will tell her to go and get measured again. Where do you recommend is the best place?

Is she perhaps wearing an AA in the wrong size band? For example, a 36AA would gape more than a 28AA.

It does sound like a trip to the GP would be a good idea but the correct bra might help, albeit in a small way, to make her feel a little better. The Bra Guru blog has great advice on measuring.

I think i will tell her to mention it at her next gp appointment and hopefully they will be able to reassure her that it is normal or find the problem if they are concerned. Thankyou for you help envy.

I was quite flat chested until I was 19. Since then I have been very large chested. I did feel the same way your dd as everyone around me seemed to have massive boobs.

I wasn't totally flat chested, but pretty small. I got bigger once I met DH and started having sex every weekend and that was when I was 20.

Oddly my boobs didn't grew much when PG or BFing.

My DD ( also 17) is very flat chested, but she works out and is a fairly serious athlete, so that tends to be expected and amongst the other girls she's about average. It does bother her a bit, but she's aware that the lack of growth is down to generally not having a lot of body fat.. she benefits ( in her words) from a nice bum! She does use various padded ootions to enhance what she does have smile

I was also quite a sporty teenager and didn't really develop boobs until i was pregnant. And it is sonething we have discussed a fair but!

It may be worth a visit to gp to reassure her that all is well, but try and bolster her self confidence in other areas... i personally feel very strongly about cosmetic surgery and would really try and stay well clear.of that idea... I am also a brownie/ guide leader and its very apparent how much pressure can be put on girls to look a certain way. Its really sad for some of them,.

Could you encourage her to go to the doctors. Hormone checks would be a start but if it's distressing her it may be wise for a gp to be involved for emotional support. I think rather than telling her its ok and she will be loved ( which she will but Unfortunatly at 17 her future is now in her world ) doing something proactive like visiting am the GP might help her feel in control a bit more.

No not overly thin, she visited the gp a couple of weeks ago for a separate issue and they said she was the perfect weight for her height. Nobody else in the family is small breasted we are all quite large in fact blush. She started talking about boob jobs and I'm trying to steer her away from going down that route if at all possible. We have tried padded bras and they just seem to hang off her even the smallest ones. If it makes any difference periods are regular too.

I was completely 100% flat chested until I was 18. Like your DD, started my periods at 11, had hips and seemed normally developed but completely flat. It's the confidence that was my biggest issue. Thank God for padded bras. Would your daughter wear them? Properly padded bra can make a huge difference. I don't think GP is necessary but it could maybe help to talk to someone who could reassure your DD? I am size 36ff now and sometimes miss the flat times

Butterytoast Fri 01-Nov-13 22:54:02

Just spotted that her periods have started. Would still consider gp for advice and blood test

LynetteScavo Fri 01-Nov-13 22:53:36

Is she very thin, and is this normal for your family?

Butterytoast Fri 01-Nov-13 22:52:56

People develop at different rates but at 17 I think it would be worth getting her hormone levels checked by the gp. Has she started her periods? Are the rest of the females in your family's small breasted?

LynetteScavo Fri 01-Nov-13 22:52:36

Sorry, didn't read properly!

LynetteScavo Fri 01-Nov-13 22:52:17

Yes, go to the GP.

Have her periods started?

Worried231 Fri 01-Nov-13 22:49:39

Sorry about the lack of paragraphs damn iPhone.

Have name changed for this as I don't want to exploit or out my DD. My DD is 17 next month and has not yet developed breasts, she came to me crying last night that she is scared that she will never grow them and that even her AA bra is too big for her. I would not be worried if she was flat chested as I would just try and boost her confidence but she took of her top for me last night and she has literally no breast tissue, she just has barely there buds that would be typical for the very start of puberty however she started her periods at 11 and has hips and is otherwise normal for her age. Is there still time? Does any body have any experience of this ? Should she go to the gp?
It is affecting her confidence as she will not wear vest tops of any kind or dresses and constantly covers up the top half of her body. She's says that she doesn't want a bf as she will have to take her top off at some point. It all me makes me so sad and I just told her that the right person will love her for exactly who she is. I just don't know what to do sad
