Should I insist on gcse option??

14yr old daughter is currently choosing gcse options and has picked a fairly broad assortment (she doesn't have any idea of what she wants to do after high school, so a wide range seems to be a good place to start). We seem to be on the same page generally and I do want her to take lessons that she will enjoy and be enthusiastic about.
However school has recommended that she takes target maths as she is unlikely to get a C grade in math gcse. She doesn't want to do this as "maths is boring" and taking the extra maths will use up one of her options. We are really locking horns over this and I am unsure if I should insist on her taking the target maths lessons or let her choose and make her own mistakes. Maths is important, right...........

Could you come to some sort of agreement whereby she has a trial period of say a term without target Maths, and if her Maths results are good enough she doesn't have to do it; otherwise she must take remedial lessons? There could be some kind of workaround like that. Or could a private tutor, even if not every week, be an alternative solution? Maths is very important and you must do all you can to try and make sure she gets a C as that is the minimum benchmark for lots of future jobs and training.

I'd actually have a chat with her about doing just ordinary maths at school and having outside tutoring to really try to bump that grade up to the C- it really is a " magic key" to access so much in the future.
